CHAPEL HILL -- It seemed like a good idea at the time.
About midnight, someone called the Chapel Hill Police Department to report a loud party at 218-A Green St., just off Umstead Drive. When police arrived, they saw between 100 and 150 people inside and outside the apartment and most of them began to scatter, according to Jane Cousins of the Chapel Hill Police Department.
Many of the people inside ran upstairs and out onto the roof and a deck. Others thought they had found a good hiding place in the attic.
That didn\'t work out so well. \"A large group of individuals fell through the Sheetrock,\" Cousins said. \"These people were in the crawl space and fell through after the ceiling collapsed from their weight.\"
They fell down into the kitchen and living room on the floor below.
Incredibly, no one who fell through or who was standing in the kitchen or living room was seriously injured, said Major Brian Curran.
Police cited three people who were hosting the party for sale of alcohol to a minor and aiding and abetting underage alcohol use because they charged guests money for the alcohol they served at the party. Those cited included Robert Robertson, 21, of 218-A Green St., Chapel Hill; Jesse McLaughlin Rappole, 23, of 700 Bolinwood Drive, Apt. 341, Chapel Hill; and Matthew Scott Gibby, 21, of 530 RL Norris Road, Linwood.
Police also charged a young woman who dropped a cup of beer and ran from police when they first arrived at the scene. Brianna Mumm Felnagle, 19, of 1618 Wilston Road, South Tacoma, Wash., was charged with underage drinking and resisting, delaying and obstructing a police officer.
