The OP strated this thread with a false title saying WIllis would run a sub-4 attempt in 2023 on XMAS day. That's not true. Jonathan Gault has reached out to him and Nick's not going for sub-4 this year so the streak will end.
Much as I'd love to see Nick extend his sub-4:00 streak to 21 years, this isn't happening. I asked Nick if he was making an attempt on Christmas and he said "only if they allow 70mm stack super spikes." He's only running 3 days a week and not in racing shape.
Gave a vote up for the info, BUT IM NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT!

If someone would have offered him 100k to break 4 this year and told him back on Dec 1st I wonder if he could have made it happen in a month
Eamonn Coglan pulled it off at age 41 after not being ready at age 40
I saw him jogging in a couple tracksmith 5000 heats this summer and he didn't look like he could run a 6 minute mile, much less a 4 minute mile. I pointed him out to a friend and they didn't believe me that he's an Olympic medalist
Nick Willis started CIM this year without a bib. He was up at the starting line along with the elites. Not sure what he was doing there. Pacing a female?

I think he posted that was exactly what he was doing at the time, yeah.

Exactly. I think he mentioned he is only running about 15 mpw

Thanks for confirming the tragic news. I am honestly shaken to the core realizing that one of the constants in life, Willis running sub4 every year, is suddenly gone.
Why only running 3 days a week? That’s not even running
What is the point of breaking 4:00 min in the mile at the age of 40? I can understand why if you never broke 4:00 and decided to go for it, but why go through the pain and discomfort of training and racing after spending most of your adult life running at a high level? What is there to prove? At what point do you accept the fact that you're no longer a world class runner and need to move on?
He’s really cutting it close waiting until the end of the year. If he gets it he should time trial another one a week later to go ahead and knock out 2024. I always thought that should’ve been Spence’s approach with his sub 5 streak but perhaps the attention that can be generated at the deadline is more valuable. Go Nick!

He's running 15 miles a week but cross training on an arc trainer.
No way. He was hammering training last time around and said how hard it was getting. I don't think he is taking another crack.
Had you written "I don't think he is taking another shot," I would have voted it for post of the day. (Or post of the year, if you could have worked a javelin in somewhere.)

He's not an Olympic medallist. He's a 2-time Olympic medallist. Please don't disrespect Nick.
One of the all-time great streaks in running history appears to be coming to an end.
Who on January 1, 2024 will have the longest streak of most consecutive years with a sub-4?It's not Centro as he didn't do it in 2022.

That's what I'm bummed about. No incentive to do it. I like your thinking. I was thinking something similar. If he was paid $1 million for every year he did it, how many years could he do it in a row?
