I enjoyed spending time with him at his running camp at Pepperdine. I still refer to lactate liftoff periodically. He was a very knowledgeable, generous, and interesting man.
I loved his newsletter! As a runner who relished racing but was less enthused about training his newsletter always seemed to have a much needed article describing yet another super efficient training scheme.
His Running Research News newsletter was very influential in educating my early years as a fledgling coach. I distinctly remember his article on the research of tapering, "The Carolina Taper" from the early 90's. Also his column in RW, I think called Fast Lane? This was when RW was a credible source - and one of the few - of training information. RIP

Wow pancreatic cancer is a rough way to go. A good friend of mine suffered from it and died in early 2020. The whole COVID pandemic started a few weeks later. He was in a lot of pain for months prior. My condolences to his family and loved ones.
I, too, found his work useful, both on how to train to race successfully, and also on mental approaches. He wrote an article on VAK (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) visualization around 2010-2011 that I used to great effect. RIP.

The Pepperdine camp in the summer of 2001 was a blast! He had Veronique Billat there and she explained CV pace in a way that really clicked for me. RIP.
