I can do that pace for 10 miles. No way he can. I say he can hold it for 1 mile before fading straight to 7:45 per mile pace on the next, and then crawling at 9 minute pace for the next 4. Ultimately I day he gives up at 5.
I want to do it. It’s a telemarketing job. I don’t care if I end up ruining the relationship. He shouldn’t be able to get away with claims like this.
Yeah just invite him on a run. Crossfit guys tend to think 1 sub 6:00 mile is absolute god tier running, so just cruise at 6:45-7:00 pace. What’s even more embarrassing than not being able to hold the pace you said you could is being a minute per mile slower.
You Boss is in Telemarketing. He is paid to make up stuff.
You on the other end just not belong into this world of unhinged capitalism.
Please take your plant and go home.
Reminds me of a friend who claims he gets over 30,000 steps (in one day) every time he does yard work while never leaving his property. His house is on a third of an acre.
Granted it wasn't my boss, but when an obese coworker claimed a sub-20 5k, I didn't tolerate it for a second. There were three or four others there and I said "Bull Fing sh!t, not fvcking possible. You can't do half a mile at that pace!". He kept going for a minute before switching it to some elliptical workout. One of the other guys was a legit sub-15 runner but he was too polite (and scrawny) to call him on it.
Reminds me of this cool running store/brewery in Longmont, Colorado. They have this 800m challenge where you pay the amount you run for your first beer (ex. run 2:23, pay $2.23). If you are on the all-time top 20 list, you pay that price every time for your first beer.
The course is this 400m out and back with a hairpin turn. They usually have an employee verify the time for patrons, but this one time they were slammed and these two huge army bros show up and want to do the challenge. The bartender tells them the course and asks them to time themselves.
They come back and say they ran 1:48.
Beat steeplechase star Billy Nelson's top time for the challenge.

I'm going to have a talk with the guy who owns Cedar Creek Microbrewery about trying this one.
Enjoy your new job search.
NO! If that's what he perceives and identifies with, no. No. No.

Judging from your post, I have a feeling that you’re Anders Holmvik? As an aside, you might be careful with the challenge, as you likely only deadlift about 12 pounds. A fight could be costly for you.

Are you sure he is "lying"? He may have no idea what he's saying. Maybe he really believes he can do it because he did a little under-measured cross fit "mile" run in 5 minutes. I've found that many clueless people over estimate the distance they've covered while walking around the house/mall/vacation destination/etc.
Agree with this. It's like the people who walk 10 miles a day. Runners have a much better sense of distance than the average person.
It's likely your boss ran a 6-something short mile during a class & doesn't have any sense of how that converts to other distances. Go on a run with them or don't. You know he can't run 10 in 60min. What does it matter. Your boss is still more active than most people. Just doesn't have a clue about running.
He probably runs for an hour at a hard pace for him and just thinks it’s “about 10 miles”. If he’s not on Strava he probably has no clue how far he’s actually running.
Crossfit was copied by Hollywood screenwriters from SWAT, Elite Responder, and Special Forces training schools and made part of the popular culture. Crossfit is totally non-contact which makes it simple to grade and evaluate per student.
No. You should challenge him to a duel. Flintlock pistols, 12 paces apart.
I'm going to start telling people I bench sets of 225 and squat sets of 275
I weigh 130
Apparently we can now identify whatever our mind can invent and no one can question us
My guess is, he can run 6:59/mi for “almost” an hour and he’s stretching that to “6 minutes” for an “hour.” But who cares?
Why would you want to embarrass your boss and harm your own job prospects?

This. Or more likely still he's done one 6 min mile and assumes he can do 10.
10 Cross Fit miles in an hour, maybe?
If a Cross Fit mile is anything like a Cross Fit pull up, his claim is highly believable.
He 100% mixed up miles and kilometers. 10km in an hour is the standard pace for joggers.
Why be passive about it? Just say "no, you didn't."
