That may be arithmetically the case but it makes no sense from any angle I can see.
It's not a "margin of victory" nor is it an apples-to-apples comparison to other 6k races, for which he gives the final margin, not the margin at the 5k.
I’m not buying the weak excuse that Tuohy was sick. Before the race, the coach said Tuohy is in the best shape of her life. Now she’s sick?? BS. Every time Tuohy loses there are lame excuses. So sick of it.
Since when does Henes make excuses? She is a pretty straight shooter
And Katelyn never makes excuses. And the idea that her coming in in the best shape of her life and her getting sick are mutually exclusive is just stupid. No coach is going to say, "btw my athlete is sick (or injured), just to let everyone know before the race".
One Florida runner DNF, was she normally a scorer? If they had a 5th they might have taken 3rd.
That was Mazza-Downey who has been battling an injury this year. If she scored what she did last year they would have won. If she ran like she did at SEC in her only other race this year they would have gotten third.
Dang, you're right. I somehow was looking at the 5K splits. When I put Valby's time in there, I though, "It didn't seem like Lemngole was THAT far back." But that's what the results said and I went with it. Should have checked myself. Still, the biggest margin of victory since Kipyego in 2007. Pretty impressive.
He’s presenting the gap between 1st and 2nd place AT THE 5K mark, NOT at the finish.
Valby: 15:44.7
Lemngole: 16:02.8

I think he was responding to the comment by “callitseeit” @2:33 p.m. who posted the following:
“How is women's college running still so less deep than mens? That woman from Florida had like a one minute lead after 5k, ridiculous. The men were all within seconds of each other at the finish.”
18.1 seconds is NOT “like a one minute lead after 5k”.
Brody Hasty has been my MVP for a long time. he always comes through for the team in a championship race. While NAU didn't win, they fought hard Brody got the job done. Well done.

No worries. I appreciate you posting the data. A post just before yours was lamenting the “lack of depth” in the women’s field with “that woman from Florida” leading by “like a minute at 5k”. Your data for the 5k mark addressed my question about that exaggeration.

Extremely concerned about Letsrun user “astro”, sincerely hope he is doing okay after his obsessive fandom with NCAA female runner Tuohy turned out to be a waste of time.
Is Valby the greatest US female college runner there ever was? Could Wiley rival her dominance later this year? What will Tuohy’s new career choice be, since pro running is obviously off the table? Many questions! Expect great things!
Teams want the best runners - no matter where they come from, and runners from other countries often want to come here for the scholarship and the education. And some stay and make our country better. Always been the case. Land of opportunity, baby!. On the woman's side, look at Florida - only 2 of the top 7 are Americans. Alabama's top runners are from outside the country. Makes the NCAA the best college track and field competition in the world. Just like the NBA is the best basketball in the world - the last several MVPs have been foreign-born. And to the person who said, give the scholarships to Americans who pay taxes... since when do college kids pay taxes?? Thought it was one of the best NCAA meets in a long time.
