Totally agree OP. Not a big Rupp guy & wouldn't have guessed that he would be as good as he was. Gave good insights. Made things more interesting. Seems like he should continue down this path when he retires.

He's had lots of good interviews, like this one from 2021. I think he sometimes starts out a bit awkward but then is usually solid.

He always gave decent interviews, even when he was younger. Not always, but usually came off as affable and knowledgeable.

In case anyone has forgotten, the reason Galen pulled back from social media was because of the decade of relentless homophobic bullying and mocking of his appearance that he got from LRC since he was 16 years old.

Galen Rupp - insightful and articulate. Des Linden - straightforward analysis, no sugar coating.
Amanda McGrory - presented relevant information and was well prepared to talk in depth of wheelchair competitors. Great personality and commentary delivery.

Those mainly responsible for that was the brojos.

Arturo Barrios?

Count me in as very surprised how good Rupp was. I had very low expectations before the race but he was really good with insightful commentary and came across very naturally. Would love to see him in the booth with Anderson and Tollefson.

I don't know if you are joking, but ESPN had Juan Luis Barrios as its studio analyst. Juan Luis speaks serviceable English (for almost any other purpose) but does not speak well enough to be an analyst on a live sports broadcast where he is interacting with other people in the studio.

On the main NYC thread I speculated that ESPN may have thought it was hiring former WR Holder Arturo Barrios. Arturo speaks impeccable English and has lived in the USA for decades since attending Texas A&M in the 1980s.

He does well speaking when not being bombarded with drug allegations and other ridiculous questions on top of that from the media (Letsrun).

Anyone who was around the old Dyestat boards in the late 200Xs could have guessed this. Rupp was hugely popular among his Oregon teammates, many of whom posted on Dyestat and were very candid. His pig roasts to feed the team (like a whole actual pig slow roasted on a spit over a whole day) with Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott were the stuff of legends. Anyone who has been in the sphere of his personal life says he’s funny, chill, and a sharp guy.
