2.14 for a UK male is like being in no man's land really.Anywhere else it could work but not in the UK.Firstly I do not think you will be able to qualify for sports lottery funding. Its a tricky one you need to have a very honest conversation with yourself or a close mentor to determine the way forward. I would suggest that if you have a support system that believes in you and can support you financially then quit your job focus fully on athletics for 2 full seasons. Train hard ,increase your miliage,go for altitude training, focus and drop everything else and get your time down to 2.10.If you manage to do this then you will qualify for lottery funding then progress and fully focus on being a professional athlete. If you do not have the support system to help you focus completely on athletics I would suggest you ask yourself whether it's really worth it .Remember the Elite women are now at 2.11/2.12 hence a 2 .14 male for UK will not really get you anywhere unless you relocate to another country perhaps in the third world, where you could make a living racing in the third class races that will be won in 2.14/2.15 times.
OP - you don’t say what job is or, importantly, what your commute is.
so, if you have a physically tiring job then look for something when you can sit behind a desk all day. In addition, see if you can get something with a short commute or a job that is partly or fully WFH.
Let go of your assumptions about sleep, and training. Cut your volume by 10%, run slower on easy days. Maybe run a 9 or 10 day cycle with one long run, and two other types of faster workout per cycle. Don't worry about sleep, but a nap is a good way to go. Do you drink? I find that even one glass of wine can keep me up a bit. These are just suggestions. Trust yourself. And as always, ignore the snarky trolls.
Just to try to add something useful to a predictably trashed thread on LR despite a good question.
Your extra sleep requirement is because your body is desperately trying to regenerate various nutrients it's not getting from diet, where you'd normally have enough if sedentary.
There's a reason why NOP was crazy about the supplements and then took it entirely too far into banned territory.
You need to make sure you are getting enough less-common things like choline and carnintine when doing crazy amount of endurance exercise, many scientific papers on this.
Avoid megadoses but you need to make sure you are getting ALL vitamins and minerals because you are very likely depleting them and while that won't stop you from running it will eventually eat away at your performance over time.
There’s only one runner in the UK currently with a recent PB of 2:14. Plenty of 2:13 & 2:15, but that’s quite an anomaly of a number.
I know, personally, that he doesn’t work full-time.
why do people just make s*it up on here, asking for advice, only to pretend they’re actually better than they are?
I’m pretty sure anyone who’s run 2:14 would have the right support around them to not have to ask Letsrun for advice. Especially in the UK where all the best athletes and coaches are friends/acquaintances.
First of all, I 'rounded down' to avoid doxxing myself. But I'm within 90 seconds of that 2:14 time. Second, I'm a bit surprised that all you jumped to mocking me versus, you know, trying to lend a hand. Helpful bunch you all were...
Anyway, I received my panel results today, and I'm borderline low in a few categories and VERY low in a few others. Surprisingly, my iron wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either. That's my immediate fix, along with backing off of the mileage for the next two weeks. Wish me luck.

You could have rounded down 900* seconds instead and tried to convince us you are Kelvin Kiptum. Of course we are mocking you, if you were a funny troll at least It would be entertaining, but you are just plain dumb

Traditional route for a 2:14 UK man is to race a horse, win, and then use the winnings to not work for six months.
