The Final Leg video is very thorough with the limited evidence about Michael Norman that he has given and shows clearly that while he was terrific last year, multiple 43s and 19s, a World Championship gold in the 400m, he was really struggling in his early races because of injuries this year. He ran 10.02w to finish third and then 20.65 in Doha, before 10.31 at U.S. trials and he referred to those injury problems, tendonitis/a problem behind his knee, as a reason, in addition to shifting from Quincy Watts, his coach all the way from 2016, to John Smith in the middle of the season. (He also sought a "more professional" atmosphere, namely, getting finally away from the collegiate atmosphere). He also left his long-time training partner in Rai Benjamin, which was an adjustment for both of them.
