Initially, this thread was entitled "UCLA track coach, Sean Brosnan, Fired for NCAA violations" but we changed it as Brosnan told us he was simply not renewed for next year.
Seems like the administration didn't agree that it was baseless. I guess if the guy who claimed he was a 9xAll American says it was baseless, it must have been. You choose to believe Brosnan over the administration that hired him.
Dalia Frias - Mira Costa HS = 14 miles from UCLA - 2229 miles from Duke University Mia Barnett - Crescenta Valley HS - 16 miles from UCLA - 2221 miles from Univ. of Virginia Sam McDonnell - Newbury Park HS - 30 miles from UCLA - 1803 miles from Univ. of Alabama
I don't think it is a stretch to assume these girls just wanted to be closer to home and run for their local university. They obviously all saw first-hand the success Brosnan had at Newbury Park (especially McDonnel). There is a legitimate probability that no tampering was needed at all to bring them home to Los Angeles.
There is more to coaching than people realize. Compliance. Travel. Uniforms. Grades. Recruiting. NILs. NLIs. Actual coaching. He likely overlooked many administrative responsibilities which AD staff hate because it causes them more work.
we don’t know what the standard was for proving violations and we also don’t know what the alleged violations were. but it would not be unbelievable for a coach who lied about his own PRs to lie about other things.
Incredible reference, I didn’t know anyone else still remembered that. Cheat on your wife with one of your athletes, and get scooped up by Princeton without hesitation! Of course, any record of it has been scrubbed out of existence, so you either know it happened or you don’t.
Based upon his video, I'd guess he simply spent too much time brewing his own coffee and did too much slow motion walking and missed the team van too many times.
Why would Frias and Barnett be impressed that he coached McDonnell to a time slower than their PRs?
Brosnan could have successfully recruited them without tampering, but he tampered anyway. Most power 5 schools will non-renew your scholarship as soon as you enter the portal. Brosnan was finding a way to tell these athletes that they'd be guaranteed a full scholarship at UCLA before they entered the portal so they didn't have to worry about losing their scholarship and potentially not being able to find another scholarship. He may have messaged from his own coaching instagram page, it may have been via his wife contacting the athlete's family members. But it's illegal.
If anyone reported him, it was Duke. They held Frias out of NCAAs indoors because she was transferring.

At the end of the day schools like UCLA don’t care too much about the competitive records of non revenue sports. Sure, if the team is good, that’s nice, but first and foremost they just want no drama. If there’s any drama, even a little, it’s not worth it to the AD. What Brosnan was selling, UCLA wasn’t buying.
Piling on is what the internet is for unfortunately. However, this guy has put a target on his back with his mouth, his desire for the spotlight and overdeveloped main character syndrome. He has to be a good coach and inspiring person for some athletes but reading some of the quotes in the LRC write up fall in line with his persona. “They’re out to get me” “They vowed to get me fired” The coaching community is not cut throat unless you’re a d.
Skimming this thread, it's kinda hard not to notice how most of the people ripping SB are registered users, and almost all the people defending him are anonymous.
