I know, I was thinking about that, too. But if it's his goal to leave h.s. with the 5K record - which he previously had anyway - I can't blame him. at least for trying.
I know, I hate to go there, but I pulled up yesterday when I was searching something and one of the quotes (from a former Schumacher athlete), "the first rule of being on a Schumacher team, is you don't talk about being on a Schumacher team... the second rule is, you don't race..." Ouch!
In response to Craven's article which appears on flotrack Bairu wrote this on Facebook: "Ryan craven is lucky Jerry didn't cut him for underperforming every year! not surprising a guy who never made the top squad is taking th...
Someone just posted this link on the other thread, I guess you could watch the live results? If you're dying to know if he breaks it, or not. I'm not sure if there's a livestream, or not.

Looks like Mcgorty is there, so he'll definitely be looking to have the pace pushed to get the American Standard. Might give Burns a chance to see if he can hang on for sub 13:30
His last 5K, nobody had any interest in running fast and it paced high 13's.
Still, if I was him, I'd go for it. Aren't you a competitive person? Plus, there's no guarantee next year it will be broken; I'm sure he's going to try to run his fastest so the record's out of reach for a while.
That's pretty much my point. I don't think Burns is going after the record to "look" any way. he may not even be going to Belgium only motivated by getting the record. Heusden is renowned for great racing and lots of people running PBs. He's a competitive dude going for it.
I understand why American fans would want to see Burns in the fast heat, but it's a bit surprising to see that the race directors put him in there. Guys like Olin Hacker (13:19 SB/PB), Jackson Sharp (13:26 SB/PB), and Nassim Hassaous (13:26 SB/PB) are in the B heat.
and how will he look when someone else breaks it next year or the year after?
For sure! Records are made to be broken.

Not to sound like a hater. But it would very lame if he ended up with the high school record.
He’s run some decent times but he’s a terrible racer and probably not top 5 in his class.
I actually think if they ran a 5k national championships he gets 5th at best.

32nd at NXN. 3rd - 5th at most of the big meets.
Well, I'm not his parent or coach or anything, but I think he had a particularly off race for NXN. He was 2nd at the Midwest Regional, and then a bunch of guys beat him at NXN who he had previously beat the week before, if that makes sense: Kole Mathison, Benne Anderson, Connor Ackley, Aden Bandukwala, Dan Watcke. I just don't think it was a good day for him. happens to the best of us!
Plus, he even says himself that he's more of long distance guy. So, if he gets 4th at the NON mile race - he admits that he does better at the farther distances.

Oh, I missed him. You're right. IIRC the Stumptown meet was a warm day.

Correction: World Standard = 13:07.
McGorty's teammate Kieran Tuntivate also entered.
