I was very surprised Tuohy went to the lead from the outset. I kept thinking Maatoug did this unexpectedly during the indoor 1500 final and faded to 7th. Well, Tuohy likewise faded to 7th.
IMO, the 800 is the only event that plays mostly standard during extreme altitude or heat. The sprints benefit and distances suffer. Tuohy didn't seem to take that into account. I think she was fooled by the semifinal and how many women in her heat broke 4:10, believing she needed to go lower again in the final.
Meanwhile as a gambler I've been aware for decades that the first venture into extreme conditions can play out basically the same as elsewhere. You get lulled into complacency. Then the impact shows up the second time out. Notice that not many of the shocks in this meet were from the qualifying rounds. They were saved for the situational influence of second exposure.
I'm a fan of hers and I enjoy seeing her dominance. Her trollfans and those that make troll threads constantly fueling the trollfans are both incredibly annoying.
But it is the internet and old-school forums are difficult to moderate especially given the antiquated platform. They could plug in some AI moderation with some custom coding integration but it would probably not work great because there isn't enough poster volume for it to learn effectively.
I don't think there were extreme conditions. It was hot and the dew point was an average of 57 for the day at the airport. This isn't optimal for mid-distance running, but not oppressive. Now, the quick look-up I did for dew point could have been incorrect and to be honest, I'm not an expert by any means.
Obviously they all had the same conditions.
@malmo, you have written in the past about dew points and such - can you give some insight on the conditions? 92 degrees and a 57ish dew point for 1500m. Is this brutal, business as usual or a bit rough?
I get tired of people on here overusing the term "troll". Do you all even know what a troll is or do you just call anyone who posts negative comments a troll? Tuohy is human. Some people love to see great people struggle at times. Makes them feel better bc even at their best they can not do or accomplish what the person they are ripping on can. Get over yourself and let he have her good and bad races like the rest of us have.

She’s an amazing athlete, but yes some athletes will peak sooner than others. People tend to get extremely excited to see tiny kids running super fast times but that means nothing that’s just a head start once they hit puberty and train for several years without interruptions that shows the true potential of an athlete. How many HS sub 4 milers have won WC or Olympic medals? If I’m correct just Ryun and most of these kids don’t even have successful pro careers and the worse part is that they don’t take advantage of the education they end up getting some bs degrees and can’t even make a decent living.
I guess I miss your point here. In spring of 2018 Touhy was a 'tiny kid running super fast times'. Now in spring 2023 Touhy has already 'hit puberty and trained for several years without interruption to show her true potential'. She didn't get a bs degree, she already completed a B.S. in business and is currently working on a second undergrad business major in marketing. Something tells me if she stopped running tomorrow, she could make a nice career in product management for one of the shoe companies.
Touhy is one of the rare kids who did make the jump from HS phenom to college phenom. That's no guarantee she'll be a great pro, but she's certainly off to a good start. One college race, where she went out way, way, way too fast won't define her college or pro career.
No fan of hers but these threads are getting ridiculous bashing on a young woman to make yourselves feel better about your pathetic lives. The best runner doesn't always win. Its that simple.
Is this 1500 going to take anything from her accomplishments? No
Many greats have fallen short. That's part of competition and most come back stronger!

Maybe you are new here. All these threads you see and are complaining about weren’t started by fans of the athlete. Think about who would want to do this and why.
Most Tuohy threads were started by about 3 crazed fans. They can't deal with reality. Tuohybis the best ever amd everyone else cheats or dopes or will burnout.
