I agree with yr remark that “Hassan isn’t scared to lose,” which is why I can imagine Hassan working herself back to 3:52.xx shape, trusting that Kipyegon won’t hold sub-3:50 form throughout the summer and giving the 15 a whirl again. To me, she seems to love to compete and isn’t too bothered about another runner performing better on the day.
We'll see if there's a hard 3:54.00 ceiling for the rest of the field or if a general shift of faster times follows from Kipyegon's WR mark this year.
Medal threat? That’s sort of insulting to her. She’s far and away the 2nd best female 1500 runner on earth, better than Tsegay or Muir, or Hailu or Hull, etc as long as she has just a little rest and recovery. She just cruised to a 3:58 the day after running 29:37. The issue is that Hassan is ONLY second best and even if the 1500 were her sole event at worlds, she’s not beating Kipyegon. So, does she bother racing the 1500?

Yes, 100% on all of this. What’s clear is that she’s back on the track and working on her speed, so I don’t think she’s thinking about running another marathon this summer. Hassan likes to be challenged it seems more than she likes winning, so maybe Faith’s dominance and wr is just the motivation she needs for Budapest. A valiant 2nd in the greatest 1500 ever run might be more to her liking than another 5000 gold. That’s sort of boring for her…..Maybe she should try the sc:-)

Seeing Hassan on the line at World XC Champs (Croatia) in Feb 2024 would be...malade.

That’s a crazy comment for me. Tsegay to me deserves a little more credit. She runs a breakneck style to win, but if she sat in the pack to time-trial or run for a medal I can’t see anyone but Kipyegon being much better than her.
The men’s 1500 was truly bizarre. Mad dash the first 100 with crazy physicality and then everyone decides to jog, rendering all that argy-bargy completely meaningless. They of course have a good pacemaker AND wavelight because they were trying to hit the standard. Since none of these guys can likely get into Diamond Leagues, they’re gonna have to be consistent with really high placings in Gold/Silver meets or pop a fast one in a similar setup to get in through World Ranking/the standard.

The comment is on point. GTsegay is superb but #3 in 1500. Hassan outsprints her easily.
And if there is Kipyegon, Hassan and Tsegay in a race Muir has a problem though she has better kick than Gudaf.
