Super Shoes have changed what times mean. Just like the full body swimsuits did for swim times for a year or so [ before being banned]. And just like new bicycle technology has made everyone faster compared to using old technology. Duh.
I'll give you that for road shoes, but at best these "super spikes" just added 1/4" of foam to the midsole. Spikes have always been plated. Although Luis' Hokas looked pretty chonky for spikes. I'd attribute it to something other than the shoes, at least in competition. I think better shoe tech allows athletes to train and recover much better. Plus smarter training and better "nutrition" all play into it.
Impressive but you simply can’t compare times to pre super shoes. There will always be technology. Just like you won’t be able most likely to compare times in 2023 to times in 2043. Everything Changes…
Luis Grijalva, last year's 4th place finisher at the World Championship, proved that performance was no fluke with a 12:52.97 personal best and 3rd place fin...
It’s been so cool watching him to continue improving over the years, I remember when he was a sophomore my graduating year and he wasn’t even the fastest sophomore in our section and he has just kept building and building. He has to be the GOAT distance runner to come out of the sac Joaquin section at this point, maybe even out of all of California. 12:52 is nuts, and beating some of the guys he beat is huge
Plus … this was a real race ..not a TT on the nykie campus in the middle of the night or on a high school track, both of which were team members only.
I enjoyed hearing the British announcers say he was from Guam
Well, they have also trouble to understand that Northern Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom... Cheers mate!
Firstly, Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. Secondly, this is at least the second time that Tim Hutchings has said Grijalva is from Guam during live broadcasts. Not sure why the BBC team aren't correcting him.
