Very impressive! haven't seen him run before. So he's been steadily dropping his times over the years. Previous PB 3:34.6. Interesting new name in the mix.
Did he listen to one of the letsrun posters and agree that to help his speed he needs to get Jakob tattoos?
He closed in 41/55. The commentator said that he recently ran 1:45. Now I thought that this was the guy with one of the fastest last 200s ever in a 1500m, and indeed, it was Robert Farken who closed in 23.63 in an indoor 3:50 1500m last year at the German Indoor Champs. There was a whole thread where some said it was meaningless and it's true that he didn't run really fast for 1500m after that, but here it is now.
Is that the fastest ever 200m split in a 1500m race ?Race was (very) slow and tactical, but the winner split 23 seconds from 1200-1400 and 24 seconds from 1300-1500 easing up on the final 100.
I thought the commentator for that meet was very good btw. The BBC should hire him. I liked how he clearly got annoyed when they kept replaying some guy's high jump effort during the 1500m
Actually I guess that's a good point. IAAF has 3:31.98 as the record but Wiki has Wessinghage's 3:31.58 as the record. From 1980! Why would the IAAF ignore Wessinghage's time?
The men's 1500 is going crazy. George Mills ran 3:33.16 over the weekend as well. People said the standard was too hard but everyone is just raising their game

A flaw in the WA database.
If you filter for "Germany", only results for GER will be returned. Pre unification results are labeled as GDR or FRG.

It’s deep. Hopefully the Oslo race goes out aggressively and we see a Monaco-styler race with a bunch of sub-3:30s.

Agree. Oslo was once the Monaco for milers. WOOOOOO!

I think that's what we'll get. So many running 3:31-3:33 in their season openers bodes well for a competitive event. And there's still people like Wightman, Kerr, and Katir who haven't raced outdoors yet.
If someone had told you that a former rock climber named Hobbs Kessler and random German named Bob Farken would be top-5 in the world on June 1st, 2023, you'd all have either laughed, called them crazy, or asked who?
