He claimed no Kenyan has run sub 2:10 before EPO. It was told him a few days ago that this is wrong. Now he gives a statistic which shows that 3 Kenyans have run sub 2:10 before EPO.
But he will continue with his lie: so, he is stupid and a liar. Just the facts.
Yes, let's turn this thread about Niels. We'll be talking to him tomorrow for the podcast.
Anyone have a question we should ask of him? Anyone know what his training is like?
Not much. The only thing I know is that he is coached by Tomasz Lewandowski, who was recruited away from Poland about 18 months ago by Laurent Meuwly. Lewandowski coached his brother Marcin to much success. Meuwly brought Tomasz to Netherlands because the country has widespread youth participation in athletics but has had difficulty translating that into senior success. Meuwly specializes in sprints, hurdles and relays but needed someone he trusted for middle distance.
Lewandowski is known to be very dedicated, as this section describes:
"Tomasz’s philosophy has been developed through decades of experience and by absorbing information like a sponge from world-class athletes and training environments.
“I travelled to see how other coaches and athletes train, how they behave,” he says. “I went to China, New Zealand, the US, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Kenya, Ethiopia, Norway, Sweden, the UK and more. I talked to experts of psychology, physiology, physiotherapists, biomechanics, nutritionists and physicists. I talk to coaches for sprints, jumps, throws, but not only athletics – I joined swimming groups, football, volleyball, cyclists, judo, wrestling, rowing and I always took something away.”
But in terms of training specifics, I haven't seen much. The Dutch 400 camp under Meuwly is very open about the training. The athletes post videos and summaries all year long. I never see much from the middle distance group except occasional glimpses of jogging in Flagstaff.
Laros did seem to enjoy attending a Phoenix Suns game a couple of months ago. I remember he posted that on Instagram and was beaming, especially on the short lived Instagram stories.
After seeing the recent disqualification threads it strikes me that Laros wouldn't have fared well as a high school runner in certain regions of the United States. He loves to celebrate and play to the crowd late in the race during victories. In both of his European U18 wins last summer he had clear margin and was visibly celebrating long before the finish line.
I don't apologize. There are still posters on LetsRun today that fervently insist East Africans have a genetic advantage, as Ghost1 is in this thread. What do you think that does to young non-African kids who find this forum on Google searching for training advice? It would probably be worse if I hadn't stood my ground over these years and presented the counter case, which is being proved correct every passing day, both by the emergence of incredible non-African talents like Laros, and by every new Kenyan doping bust.
I'm proud of myself.
It amazes me how CoeOvett doesn't think East Africans have a genetic advantage. Yeah, only in Kenya would it be financially advantage to run a 2:05 marathon. Why don't we have 2;07 marathoners on EPO in Angola or Namibia, Nigeria, Benin/Senegal, Burkina Faso?
India?
Then I was a teenager and watched Juantorena winning olympic gold “everybody” told me from now on one had to be built like him to run sub 1.43.5… And then “tiny” Coe all of a sudden smashes the WR twice -I mean SMASHED!
Some two decades ago a couple of the best Norwegian distance runners went to Kenya -so what did they learn? -You had to have long slim calves to be among the 200 - 300 best in your event…. Then Bekele arrived on the stage (he’s built like me, only a little less taller; and my training partners loved to compare me with a shot putter…) And then you got Jakob I. -we were told he was to heavy for the 5000m. And here comes Niels Laros -extremely interesting prs in both the 800 and 5000m, but “with the wrong genes being Caucasian”…
Genes matter, but we know far to little how. I myself think genes matters LITTLE between populations -there’s so much to be found in culture differences and training and lifestyle…

Shouldn't we be talking about Laros a little bit. He seems like a rich man's version of Colin Sahlman. 1:46 speed/13:23 strength. That indicates 3:34-5 potential right out the gate. That's not even accounting for if it's his best event like a Hobbs Kessler say and then you can look at 3:32-3:33 at age 17/ a young 18 which is strong company.

Niels will run a 1500m in Hengelo on Sunday.

So you don't have any problem with a poster who constantly lies in almost all his posts? What's the benefit of such a poster? When you have to check any info which he gives, because his history shows that he is wrong extremely often - in many cases intentionally.
