By the time Georgia gets to NCAAs they are gonna have Matt probably go top 5 in the 200, Godwin top 6ish in the 400 (cope but it's true), Garland win dec, maybe Sumner in the 800, and that 4x400.
0 chance they get anywhere close to that team title
Who are the 5 athletes beating the NCAA indoor champion Godwin? I see two at best in Ryan Willie and my dark Horse William Jones. I believe Godwin can break 44 at NCAAs, Willie is the only other athlete doing it.
Boling is tricky to predict but you can't deny he stepped up at Indoor NCAAs. I don't believe he's the most talented 200m runner in the NCAA rn, I think the 200m title is up for grabs and we could have the deepest field ever with almost everyone in the finals running sub 20.(Boling, Orogot, Gregory, Jones, Lindsey, Onwuzurike, Harding, Miller, Patterson, Maswanganyi)
I will through in Jenoah Mckiver. He was 2nd indoors last year to the NC A&T (man names are hard). Ran 44.7 indoors last year, never really ran outdoors. He certainly has low 44 potential.
However, it is far from likely. In fact, imo he won’t win this meet either.
At least he’s not wasting everyone’s time in the 100 now.
Meantime, he could be winning the LJ.
no
the 100 is at worst good training for the 2.
the progression with peak points to 19.90 or a bit better. he's probably coming off a training block and sharpening.
but if i had to bet, i'd go with 19.98, and 3rd.
if he delivers the 19.90 then that's near gold.
I dunno about near gold anymore. Orogot and Gregory ran 19.60 and 19.78 with something like a 3.8 wind, and i'm a big believer in the idea that you can at least get close to a wind-aided time later down the line. I am expecting a winning time in the 19.7s with a 19.8 for silver and bronze. It is an INCREDIBLY deep field this year.
I just see a habit of running fast when it doesnt really count for much. Until Boling actually gets the job done Im not putting any money on him. The 200 is a tricky race through rounds and hes not controlling his effort and releasing the beast per round. If he doesnt draw/earn lane 5 or 6, he wont win it.
Ill go with Dutch Sprinter on McKiver in the 400 as a darkhorse finalist but for 4th or 5th maybe. Hes coming on slow this season aftwr really being on the edge of greatness last year but hes not going ro win it.
My butt gets tight watchimg the poor Georgia guy trying to "lift" the last 50 meters but hes a good one. Probably over raced this year though. Dude from Florida is the second coming of Michael Franks. Loose and fast! He'll win the 400.
I’m continually impressed by your knowledge of sprint history, Deno. Serious question: have you considered writing a book on it? It seems like you could write a book full of stories, fun facts, and interesting athlete profiles. I’d be interested in reading such a book.
He just copies and pastes stuff from the internet. The "book" is already out there.
