A lot of us have been wondering for a long time what happened to our old friend Ventolin, who entertained us with his calculations and intrinsics for nearly 2 decades here, and suddenly stopped shortly before the Doha World Championships.
Well it does seem that he has passed away, unfortunately.
I hope the mods don't mind posting links that appear to confirm it, but as it appears certain he is no longer with us, I think we own him some kind of official pay of respects^.
RIP, I kinda miss that dude. Was pretty wacky, but his calculations always generated some fun discussions on Letsrun. Throwback thread where he says Mo is capable of 3:28

I always found his dislike of Seb Coe and worship of Jim Ryun funny. I thought most of his predictions were worthless, but he definitely made this place what it was.
I always loved his short fuse. I used to make up s#$% just to set him off. Like one time I made up some bogus formula to compete with his model while revealing different outputs. I'm convinced he would have tried to strangle me if he saw me in person that day.
Vent seriously suggested one of the funniest things I have ever heard on this board, that Asafa Powell ran fast for 100m in Rieti because the facility and immediate surroundings had more trees, and therefore more oxygen!😂😂😂

He used to say all sorts of crazy things - in particular that Jim Ryun could run about 3:20 for 1500 on modern tracks. But the Mo Farah thing was epic: Mo basically had never run 1500 and 3:28 is a mark that many great milers never get (Webb never went under 3:30 for reference). We all told vento he was nuts and no way Mo was going to run 3:28 let alone break 3:30 (or 3:35). And bang - he breaks Cram's European record. I think he was right about Mo - he wasn't a true 10k/5k runner. He was a 10k/5k CHAMPIONSHIP runner which means he could kill the field in a tactical championship race but he was never going to time trial the WR. Vento said Mo was probably best at 3k and I suspect that's right.
On the other hand, who remembers when Iguider ran the WL on that wonky track in Marseille (or somewhere like that I think?). They started the race from the wrong line which was about 1500m up the track from the right start line. I think the track had an outside steeple pit and it was the start line for something like the 2k steeple or something. Anyway, vento argued like crazy it was a legit time and the right line but it was eventually proven to be the wrong line and the results were invalidated. He then got the thread and his posts deleted. He was calling everyone an idiot in that thread non-stop.
Why did my post get deleted? I was praising his assessment of Mo's ability when literally every single one of us said it was nuts to believe in his 3:28.

definitely my favorite account when I was active on here. He would get banned weekly for flaming dudes over whether or not ryun could have run 3:23 in Monaco. Figured the super shoes made his calculations too hard and he just gave up.

His full name is in that masterstrack link. Ajay Kumar is very common (I actually had a co-worker named that too) but Ajay Kumar Dosaj is not. That ancestry.co.uk link doesn't provide details without a login, but says Ajay Dosaj in Surrey died in 2018. His last post that I can find on this message board as calculo was in 2017. What's not to believe?
