Valby has a real chance to win depending on how hard the doublers (ie Tuohy) want to push themselves versus just make it through to the championships. I think we may see a scenario where Valby takes off and the wolfpack just pack up to qualify.
the prelim for sure...what would be interesting in the final - noone but Valby would be interested in a fast race. Watch for who medical scrathes Sunday (as I recall)
The 10K is always listed as a semifinal for the regional meet and the final is at the national meet. How many from each regional move on to the national meet? IIRC, it's only 8 from each.
I am shocked that Olemomoi and Chelangat are not doubling and going all in on the 10k. The east 5k has a lot of scratches.
Also - is Kemboi is ... tripling? Hope I am not reading that wrong again lol
Mercy doubled last year and the 5000 was tough even with a fairly easy win in the 10000. She may have correctly thought the 10000 could be up to her, Hilda, Kemboi, Venters and she will have to run hard to win but at least no Tuohy.

The 10k's look stacked. Both pretty much avoided scratches of the big names bar 1 or 2. Fay and Lopez Segura on Men's, Roe and Thorvaldson on the Women's side the only big names that i saw at first glance that scratched.
I thought Boz was injured. He’s entered in the 10k and not scratched. Is this dirty tactics by NAU? Boz enters as to not let anybody else in the meet. Then he won’t show in Sacramento?

I think like at indoors we will see some medical scratches Sunday. Why would they care about a 50ih qualifier?
Fay's a scratch in the 10000m, Duncan Hamilton a scratch in the 1500m and 5000m, Colin Sahlman a scratch in the 800m, where he is top ten in the West (running the 1500m).
not a huge surprise about Sahlman, despite winning both the 800 and 1500 at the Big Sky Championship I figured Smith would only let him do 1 event at ncaa's.
I agree - I would have to look at declarations again but she might be the only "top" runner fresh for the 5000 between doubles and scratches

How quickly we forget. On Sunday most had Valby skipping nats due leg injury. Regional, she'll just try to be top 12. Assuming, she gets to nats, yes she'll want it fast, but it's Austin.
Now that we know who the top 48 are per region how do we put their rankings into heat sheets. Their is a formula they use. Just can’t remember it.
I can't cite the rule but in the 5000 last year it was (by order of qualifing position) 1, then 2&3, then 4&5 etc alternating heats. I believe they go by internation rules so that might be where the rule is.

I don't remember so many of the women scratching the 5 in lieu of the 10 in the past. Maybe they did and I just was not aware. Perhaps teams feel the 10 gives a better chance at advancing on to the finals?

imho there are a number of 15:20-15:30 athletes and there is 1 15:03 athlete, so maybe they decided to go for the 10k vs the 5k?
That sounds like an awful idea. He could win the 1500 I think. I'm also confused as to why Illinois and Wisconsin are in the West. ARen't they east of the mississippi? Is Louisiana in the East.
There's a lot of schools along the east coast so likely it is because they need to even out the amount of schools that are in both regions so some east of the Mississippi get sent to the west
