Irrelevant? What planet are you from? It’s all about race in these schools. Need to fill that quota regardless of what the grades are. “Valedictorian whites and Asians need not apply - oops too late. Too many of you”. We’ll take the B students from here on.
Why would someone apply to 85 colleges knowing that he would get accepted by so many. Don't college applications cost money? Who can afford that.
Was ego the reason he did this? And who told the media about this. And isn't it an abusive waste of time for those colleges that had to review his application and him knowing he wouldn't go there.
It’s a new age. Common App allows you to apply to multiple colleges with a single application. Not all colleges use it, but it wouldn’t be too time consuming to apply to hundreds of colleges with little effort.
Now why you would want to apply to that many colleges is a whole other question. Why apply to colleges that you haven’t even toured or visited?

If you read the article you posted (you didn’t) his goal was to show people on his tik tok how to apply to college and to reach 10mil in total scholarships so he can be in the guinness book of world stupid records. So his motovation was to be internet famous.
I didn't read the story so I couldn't link to it. My wife was watching it as I walked by. I misheard and was mistaken about 85 applications. Glad for the correction.

. Friendly reminder, when referencing a story, please try to link to it. Please note, we changed the title of the thread. It was initially entitled, "CNN just did a piece celebrating a kid who got accepted to all 85 colleges that he applied to." We changed it as that title was inaccurate as he was accepted at 185 colleges and we haven't seen any indication that he got into every college he applied to. Plus I spent 10 years of his life coaching at Cornell.

Ya Common App allows you to apply to ton. It'd still be pricy to apply to so many colleges. There is no way this kid didn't know he wouldn't get accepted to a bunch of these. I see two rationales.
1. He wanted to set a record/be in the news.
2. He didn't want to do any research whatsoever on where he was applying - the acceptance is his method of filtering out colleges - why waste time researching a school you can't attend.

Yes. I said that . And it was subsidized by his social media. Wherever he goes, he’s going to be the most obnoxious freshman on campus. One of those kids that interrupts lecture every 5 minutes “will this be on the test”
i do see his social media blowing up and he not needing college anymore just like Trahan and those UM basketball twins.

Now typical Letsrun.com alt right message board, disproportionate buttheart narcissistic sensitive and irrelevant to running, response to its environment. The Universe will continue without you. Meanwhile, welcome to the planet.
No way that anyone who pulls these stunts have enough time to adequately research the colleges they apply to. Seems like these stunts have students apply to their actual top 5-10 schools and then just blast out their common app to whatever schools have no application fees and no extra application requirements.
I only skimmed your post, but who would ever pay an Ivy League price to go into nursing. Nursing is a wonderful vocation, but the pay scale taps out pretty low unless you get a MBA as well and go into high level administration.
I'm glad I ended up looking it up because I found out the OP was incorrect. He was accepted to over 185 colleges, not 85.
He chose Cornell by the way.
Who TF would choose Cornell over, well any other IV, Stanford, Cal…?
I've seen a story about this guy before, and I don't think all the schools he got into have been named. Cornell may have been the most prestigious one for all we know.

Many schools waive fees if you apply before certain dates. Others waive fees I suspect to get their numbers up. My kid applied to most of his schools for free. (11 out of 15)
