All this debate about Colin Sahlman every time he races, just wait until the Young brothers flop next year, it will break Letsrun. I will be there no matter what.
I know that girls have a history of completely flopping after HS (Cain, efraimson, Fairchild) but is this suddenly starting to be a trend with boys too?

Is the new definition of "flopping" not improving as a freshman?

It just Makes Brosnan look like an even better coach

Nope. It has always happened. Go track the top 10 milers of every year and some get faster. Some don't.
And 13:42 is far from flopping. It just isn't a big step forward. It isn't a regr
1 second per lap? Where the f did you see this garbage? Absolute nonsense.
Several analyses using different methods have come up somewhere around there. Not digging them all up as a diversion to a thread, but here's Geoff Burns' (a scientist doing shoe testing) take:
Geoff Burns, former USATF 100km champ, and PHd shoe expert joined us on this weekś LEpodcast to talk supershoes this week. We talked a lot about road shoes but then turned to super spikes. He says the playing field is still...

Pretty much yes. If you don’t get better than your hs times you are by definition a flop
Nice result in Sahlman's first outdoor track race in college. It is only April 2nd. He has a couple of months to sharpen as the weather warms up. It takes time to adjust to college, a different training style, different weather, and especially the altitude.
13:42 for arguably the greatest high schooler of all time? Very mid race for his credentials.
who tf is arguing colin sahlman is the greatest high school runner of all time???
i think top 10 all time is quite reasonable but anyone putting sahlman over ryun or webb or ritz or even fernandez is out of their mind
Or Lindgren, or Verzbicas, or Cheserek...like Sahlman was good (for one school year, yes I know COVID probably prevented him from achieving more) but let's have some perspective here.
Finally a US HS runner capable of taking down Rudy Chapa's 10,000 record and it's a kid w<50 <1:50, <4mi and ~60 miles/week.
Seems you consider him elegible for HS records at this point. I guess he may have not graduated. At my school, I had to go to the office, fill out some forms, drag a few papers around campus and have various people sign, stuff like that. An hour or 2 of red tape. If not, I didn"t actually graduate. If you can find a loophole somewhere, maybe he is still in high school by some definition. But.....
He hasn't broken any HS records yet anyway. The only scenario in which a debate about his HS status is relevant would be if he goes under an existing record.
I don't understand why most people here think everyone who appears to be a gifted athlete in high school will most certainly improve as time goes on. He probably will, but give it a break! He could've gone to any program in the country and ran 13:42. The school and coach rarely have anything to do with it when it comes to the genetically gifted who want to put in the work. For those that don't want to put in the work, that's a different story.
