* For argument sake, pretend there are not Amy Klobuchar types in Congress. Pretend all Democrats voted to ban firearms. As I stated, courts would say, unconstitutional. The only way to legally stop this and not deal with a court challenge: ban ammunition. Nothing stated or implied in Constitution or Amendments regarding right to ammunition.
That just won’t work unfortunately. The constitution has almost never been interpreted literally like that, but rather in the context of both when it was written and how it applies in current times.
The reform is MORE guns. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.
Gaius Baltar, is that you? "WE NEED GUNS, MORE GUNS, BIGGER GUNS, BETTER GUNS. . ."
Well, per Republicans, when you send guns to Ukraine you only help to intensify and amplify the conflict, but when you flood them into American communities, you should see an end to the violence. See how that works? It's all so simple!
As with all things it's not just one thing, it's a mishmash of a lot of things.
1. We have way too many guns. There are so many incidents of casual violence that escalate to shootings, from simple road rage to parking disputes, to bar fights you can end up shot.
2. We do not treat mental illness with the seriousness that it needs. In an effort to destigmatize it, we pretend any and all mental illness is just something you can treat with a pill. And then turn these lunatics out on to the streets, (streets full of guns.)
Crazy people seize on things they see in the news and twist it and turn it. If this person were alive in the 80's she would have done this as part of a "Satanic cult", in the 70's as protest against "the system"...
I was maybe 10 minutes away on a routine dental appointment as the news unfolded on this. On another forum, a guy's wife works at that school. He said the school does a lot of active shooter training. As you can see in the video, the shooter shot through a locked door and then kicked in the glass to enter. What's stunning to me is how the shooter is so casual walking through the school.
In my opinion, we should just let gang members kill each other. the south side of Chicago is already basically the purge - if they all kill each other, crime would drop significantly
Nothing is ever going to change in this political climate. We just have to accept that there’s a possibility our children will be murdered in school now.

Don't have time to read 18 pages but I am sure this has been touched on.
Sensible gun reforms will never happen because the GOP is fully funded and sold out to the NRA. The vast Majority of Americans want sensible gun reforms. Even Gun owners want sensible gun reforms. But the GOP does not care because they are bought and paid for by the NRA. And the NRA is funded by Russian Mob money who like the US to be in Chaos. Meanwhile mass shootings will keep happening and citizenry will be distracted w. gaslight bickering on whether the shooters was mentally ill. Whether doors were locked. Video games. Whether there are more shootings in Democrat states vs GOP states. And the Fox News of the world will quickly spin that the left is going to "come take their guns" like fascists.
Then within a day or so the story will fade away again.
The Sandy Hook shooting was the turning point and proved that the US is OK with mass shootings and dead kids simply are not that big of a deal. At least not a big enough deal to get men to feel they could ever part with their God given right to possess a toy that makes them feel manly.
This is all correct. I don’t think there’s any limit of deaths that will sway enough Republicans in gerrymandered districts to pass any meaningful legislation. I think 50,000 Americans could get shot and killed every day and nothing would change.

No need to ban ammunition. Just levy huge taxes on ammo purchases. If a bullet or shotgun shell costs $50-100/each, then gun owners will only buy what they need. Self-protection and responsible hunter types will be fine. Militia nutters and shooting enthusiasts with adequacy issues won’t be able to afford their hobby.
