Bummer that neither of the Youngs will be there, although the rest of the NP varsity is scheduled. It does look the best southern section teams are sending their full squads, like Ventura, San Clemente, Great Oak, Dana Hills, Trabuco Hills, etc.
crazy stuff. some of these races are stacked. Aaron Sahlman vs Xai Ricks in the 800 will be a standout race. Speed vs strength.
what is the weather looking like? the 3200 has been historically weak compared to the mile but it looks like that could change this year, depending on what the weather will be saturday night.
Current weather forecast is for clear skies, colder than usual for this time of year. 60's during the day, probably around 50 for the night races. Wind will be typical. Up to 10mph during the day, decreasing a little at night. Not much of a factor. At this point, a pretty favorable forecast.
I agree that the mile is usually the standout race, but I also think the 800m will have the fastest relative times, 1-5, of all the races this year on the boys side. Sadie is targeting a fast race in the mile, so that will probably have the fastest relative winner. Chris Caudillo has barely raced this year, and is listed in both the 800m and mile, but I don't think he'll do both. If he is not in the mile pushing the pace, then I think the 3200m will be a faster race.

Leo and Lex Young are not running for Newbury Park High School this track season. They will be competing in open races all spring

(1) Can you provide examples of such “open races”?
(2) They are not eligible to compete at Arcadia, correct?
(3) Can you provide further insight as to why they are not running for NPHS?

(4) Are they considering road races, e.g., ‘The BAD’ on April 2??
(I wonder whether they are eligible for an appearance stipend at such an event?)
Where have you been. Both Lex and Leo have been open about not running for Newbury Park High School this spring and will be competing in open races. They are not interested in a 3200m.

Where have they been open about it? Did they mention it in a podcast, or their YouTube channel?
The Carlsbad 5000 is an ‘open road race’.
Since when are neither of them interested in a distance greater than a mile (e.g., the 5k). I never mentioned a 3200m, although it is not clear why they may not be interested in that distance.

Actually, my original question was not with regard to whether they have been ‘open’ about it. The question was more about their reasoning behind making that decision in the first place, and which ‘open’ races they wish to pursue this spring, since they are not running at Champs now, nor apparently Arcadia.

I have listened to most of their MileSplit interviews and post race interviews, though not everything they have said. They have been quite clear about not running CIF postseason because there are too many rounds. I have never heard Lex formally say anything about Arcadia, although I got the sense Leo only wanted to do pro races. In the interviews I heard, their schedule was very undecided. Have they said anything recently about specific races?

Thanks for the update. I thumbed through one of their recent YouTube videos in which Lex was performing a 5k preparatory workout, but unless I missed it, the 5k race being prepared for was not mentioned. It also wasn’t clear (from just a quick scan-through) whether that workout was pre-NBI, but it makes sense it could have been.

The reason I guessed they were out of Arcadia is because the Arcadia web page says only entrants on high school teams will be accepted, and only their high school coaches can submit entries.

Not running post-season CIF events and not running any H.S. events this season are two totally different things. Can someone please post a link to the source from them where they stated that they won't be running any races for their school this season?

Lex and Leo said that they are going for fast times this spring. That's their goal - times not championships.
So they will not run for their high school, train with their high school, or run relay races.
They are training with Sean Brosnan.
They haven't said which races they will be running yet.
However, there are the Mt SAC Relays in mid April, a pro meet the last weekend in April at UCLA, and a Sound Running meet at Mt SAC around May 6. I expect that they will be in at least one of those meets, if not two of them.

Last year at the Sound Running meet, Lex ran a 13:43.95. In that same race, Sleeper Gorze rana 14:00.34.
