Ben True rip's the half, don't seem to get the recognition around here he's due. Powerhouse of a runner. Took the time to talk with me one year in Boston, so I'll always respect him for that. Come on Rupp, it's not over yet.
If i remember correctly, it was said Rupp is still coming back from injury and was just hoping to do well. Not necessarily be in the mix to be a top finisher. Why are you $hi++ ing on him? He went out there and races as he’s still building fitness. He was honest with himself and in the interview. Wtf do you want?
Was not ripping on Rupp at all. Big fan of both and was amazed that True finished Infront of him. Like I said I've met True before and I'd put him at about 160 lbs were Rupp looks about 130lbs. So that's were my heading came from
I know some races/day's are better than others. I'll look for his post race interview and I'm sure it's spoken with class/truth.
So too speak on your level Ben MF'n True !!! crushed it.

Throwback to 2003 HS XC nationals with True & Rupp, among others. Skip to about 35:00 to see some nice old school, 20 year old footage of teenage Ben True. Enjoy
Well, I have always liked True. Seems smart and ran some exciting races where he showed promise. I think he hit his ceiling. impressive he got that much out of himself.
Ben True - Letsrun’s favorite runner to never make the Olympics
Letsrun will sh*t on guys running 13:0x 5,000m’s these days yet think Ben true is the best American “blue collar” distance runner ever l, even though he ran the same times. If True was a better runner, he’d have been on Salazar or Schumacher’s team and the blue collar tag would never have existed. Letsrun only likes the potential of “blue collar” runners, not their results.
Well, that 13:02 was long before super spikes. Today that would've been 12:5X, which goes to show he easily could have been on a top team had he wanted to -- but he didn't.
Ben True was 4th back then and the best he'd be with super spikes is 4th. It's relative. He's not Olympic material.
You are obviously on of those who is more optimistic about him. Let's see...hopefully he can perform a miracle and make it in the marathon, but history has been consistent for him.

It is interesting that Ben True ran within 3.84 seconds of Galen’s 5000m best despite not having access to NOP and all the “advantages” which Alberto tried to bestow on Galen.
Problem with Rupp is that he is a Christian extremist who thinks a) God picks winners on race day and b) that God’s grace allows him and him alone to seek unethical means to improve performance/work with pervy coaches who abuse runners and fair play rules. It is always the those who think they are paragon of virtue and that God has chosen them that only succeed while cheating and fail in the rest of their delusional lives.

Interesting analysis! Where did you get that information? Did Rupp say so in an interview? Conjecture?

Winning races and medals is over for Rupp if we are being honest. But dreaming and being honest don't always go together. I, for one, hope he does make a comeback! Would I bet money on it? No.
Hats off to Ben True! Awesome runner. I love it that he is still getting after it!
Honestly, if Ben True can't get paid (enough) to run on the roads, and is not able to make teams on the track, and cross country isn't viable as a career, I think he should go the Max King route:
Get sponsored by North Face and/or Red Bull and race trail races and ultras and become a superstar of that sport. I'd rather make $180,000 running for Salomon than try to piece together prize money on the roads.
p.s. I think Rupp needs to find an exit strategy.
Great idea but I think I saw in an interview with him once that he really doesn’t have it in him to be an ‘influencer’ type in the sport. I think he was pretty blunt when speaking on his his aversion to being a sales/marketing athlete. Which is honestly very cool to see and makes him the man IMO.

Not particularly optimistic about him going forward, but the guy made Worlds teams and did well there. Beyond goofy to think he wasn't "Olympic material".
I doubt very much that True is going around boasting that he "crushed" Rupp is the race. Everybody knows that Rupp is trying to work his way back into competitive shape. And True seems like a pretty decent guy.
I would hope that most running fans would be pulling for Rupp as he struggles to return to racing shape. I'll never understand why LRC people rag on him.
I wonder if Rodgers and Shorter ever thank God that the didn't have to compete in the Internet age.

Where exactly did you read that someone said True was going around boasting that he crushed up ?
Seems more positive words for Rupp than negative but then again maybe you're reading something else.
Just wanted to note that in his post-race interview Ben True mentioned the challenges of training with a 19-month old at home, including that he had gotten sick recently. Major respect to any pro who is involved in the day-to-day of raising a small child while training, risks getting frequent colds, loses sleep, etc., which I understand applies to True.

I want him to come out and admit his doping and then retire.

Full 100% respect for True, but in the context of this thread - GRupp does have twins and one (?) more kid on his plate as well
