Not what was said at all and purposely misconstruing the argument... No-one is saying that these championships should ‘only’ cater to the distance runners, but an evaluation of the physical effects of the sea level distance runners should be considered, especially as the teams will not have time for the runners to adequately adjust to altitude. Some individuals will clearly suffer badly. Someone else pointed out that the Olympic committee of 1968 agreed not to hold the championships because some distance athletes from sea level countries (who did not have time to adjust) suffered some very serious physical consequences as a result of pushing themselves so hard whilst not having adapted properly to the altitude. It can be very dangerous.
It’s a distinct advantage for some athletes over others and almost no other races are at altitude, so seems unnecessary with so many non-altitude options. What gives?
Newsflash indoor has been held in Albuquerque before. Also the track is somewhat new. While having the NCAA Championships in a convention center with temporary bleachers is not ideal or in an isolated place like New Mexico, its good for the athletes.
Why are NCAAs held in one time zone? It gives those living in that time zone an unfair advantage! Let's make the home team compete somewhere else too because they have a home field advantage? Simulcast would be great for TF.

Agree. The sprinters don’t actively suffer at altitude, but improve. It’s still an even playing field for the sprinters and field eventers, no matter where they are from. On the other hand, the mid and long distance teams from sea level actively suffer. Some individuals will really suffer the physical effects of altitude a great deal more than others. It’s not an even playing field unless all sea level teams get a few months to adapt to altitude..which they clearly don’t.
It's not an even playing field when xc nats is held in Florida or Wisconsin either.
The 1968 Olympics were held at 7300 feet in Mexico City. Ask Jim Ryun how that went for him vs. Kip Keino who was born and lived at 8000 ft. Of the other hand, ask Bob Beamon how he liked jumping in Mexico City!
If catering only to distance runners, all indoor championships would be held at BU track and all Olympics would be held in Monaco
There are a lot of colleges in cold weather and a lot in warm weather, so moving XC nationals around to different climates makes sense. There are not many colleges at altitude so the same logic wouldn’t hold.
When they hold the outdoor meet in Austin, Texas at it is 115 degree's on the track at 3:30pm in the afternoon and they are running a distance race is that fair? Some places are good for some events, and some places are good for other events. Don't rag on altitude unless you are going to b*%ch about high heat and humidity.
The fact the meet is segregated to women day/section and night/men section ..looks like there is not enough seating capacity for a combined meet from previous years?
Tickets were good for both sessions. I don't think the gender division had anything to do with seating capacity, but the NCAA simply trying a different format. Outdoors already separates M and W.

They used to be concurrent no? Changed in 2021 due to covid?
This thread is very telling of the times we live in. A bunch of coastal elite snowflakes whining about the site of nationals because it gives someone an advantage. I bet you all want it held at Boston every year? How about we throw out qualifying and just let anyone who wants to run at nationals in. Y’all won’t be happy until everyone gets in and everyone gets a trophy, too. No matter where it’s held some people have an advantage. Some teams don’t run at altitude, some don’t run on banked tracks, some don’t run in the heat/cold/humidity/dryness. Don’t forget to account for travel distance. Teams from the West coast are racing 3 hours earlier in their day if it’s held on the East coast, and vice versa. There are so many factors that could give different athletes advantages. That’s why the host site should move each year and include sites in different environments.
