Fair enough. Those obscure Continental Tour Gold meets are pretty high quality to me. They also are Global (Kip Keino meet, Aussie meet, Tokyo). I’d rather watch most of them and the indoor meets than most of what’s on RunnerSpace+
Maybe Girma has produced more at championships sure but I was pushing back at the notion that he is going to run sub 12:40. It is very unlikely for anyone to do that of course. That Rome race in 2012 doesn’t happen very often.
They both ran World Indoors. Whereas Alamirew bombed twice, Girma was really close to Gold last year. I’m not saying he was a scrub but Girma is consistent and really good in Championships. Sure the Steeple isn’t deep but Kipruto, Wale and El Bakkali are all good athletes.

Ok, Krop was decent, but I think most people thought he’d do better than 6-7 seconds off the pace. It’s all about expectations (of us fans:-) (jk) realistic or not. Fisher wasn’t “horrible” either, but you think if he’s going all the way to Europe he’d be ready to run closer to the AR or why bother. What did Krop or Fisher expect today? I guess that’s what matters. For example, you get the sense that Jakob didn’t expect better than 3:32, not really, so he’s good.
I like Krop a lot as an athlete, but Im not sure indoors is his greatest priority. He also has been a little hit or miss in 3ks. He ran pretty conservatively today (probably smart).
Gotcha yeah, without more insight into Girma it’s hard to project his best flat event (1500 or 5000). You’d think on either end of the spectrum he could run sub 3:32 or sub 13, but not sure where his best event lies and how fast he could go.
You guys are just lousy fans. Two world leading times - “a nothingburger”.
Um, the men’s 3000m was the opposite of a nothing-burger! WOW! That alone was worth it. As LR.com made us aware was likely. (not saying more for those who might want to watch without knowing results).
Alamirew ran 7:27 outdoors as well, and 7:28 outdoors in a different year, and won six DL races at 3k/5k, and ran 3:50.4/2:08:56 for the mile/marathon, and 13:06 or faster in 7 straight seasons, and was ranked 2nd in the world in ‘13 & ‘14…so yeah he’s no all-time great but he’s a poor example of a fleeting unreliable East African like I think you’re implying, less of an anomalous flash-in-the-pan than a guy like Ryan Hill, who ran 7:30.
Fair point…he’s more like a Getnet Wale, Telahun Bekele, Choge or Nixon Chepseba than anything. Good on the circuit - trouble in championships
This was an indoor PB for Fisher. I'll have to see what he's done the last few years indoors. Granted last year he had the 12:53.
But could it be that he is the one who needs Woody? If Ahmed is hurt who does Fisher train with.
But also talking to Grijalva it sounds like their might not be room at the inn for Kincaid long-term. Wonder if Woody could go back to Bowerman but switch up parts of the training. Sort of tell Jerry "hey it's not your way or the highway. It's a partnership"
Fisher was noticeably limping as he walked away from the finish area. Grabbed onto handrail too. You could see him in the background when they showed Girma still sitting on the track right after the race. Looks like he strained something.
Well you see it depends on how your parse the question. IF it is the FASTEST STEEPLE RUNNER over 1500m one could say that it is Cherono. But otherwise your answer is better.

I’m not sure we have any idea what Grant expected of himself today, and I’m sure he’ll say all the right things if asked. Yes, in the greater scheme of things this race means little to nothing about his prospects for the rest of the year. Sure, it was his indoor PB. Nevertheless, I think all US fans expected a lot more. Maybe not a new AR or the win, but not 7:35 and more than 10 seconds off the pace either. He was 7 seconds off his actual PB!! It may be that BU and Millrose set the expectations too high for all American based athletes this indoor season, but there’s no way around feeling that Fisher’s run today was deflating.
Also, why on earth would Smith and that training group turn away Woody if he wanted to stay? He seems like a great training partner and a big plus. I hope he would be welcomed with open arms by any training group that allows a Nike athlete.
