Another reminder here is that Yenew Alamirew ran 7:27i 12 years ago without the super spikes and he did run 12:48 but the man has no medals to speak of and he was allegedly 20 years old when he ran 7:27i so there is no telling the future for these guys.
Girma has already done quite a bit in the sport. Alamirew was erratic, and couldn’t do it in a championship. Thierry N is the comp for Alamirew not Girma who is a stud.
I mean what do you want him to do - comeou and run low to mid 13's.. Dude showed up, ran fast, sadly he came alongside some other speed demons (farah, edris, gebrehewit, etc.).
No you are missing my point. Alamirew was at least as talented as Girma. Alamirew faced stronger competition than Girma because he wasn’t contesting the 3000m steeplechase. Maybe Alamirew should have been in the steeplechase.

Alamirew ran 7:27 outdoors as well, and 7:28 outdoors in a different year, and won six DL races at 3k/5k, and ran 3:50.4/2:08:56 for the mile/marathon, and 13:06 or faster in 7 straight seasons, and was ranked 2nd in the world in ‘13 & ‘14…so yeah he’s no all-time great but he’s a poor example of a fleeting unreliable East African like I think you’re implying, less of an anomalous flash-in-the-pan than a guy like Ryan Hill, who ran 7:30.
I agree - but with runnerspace you also get USATF and armorytrack which adds to value
Being a huge Tuohy/HS fan I can see that, but I really only care to see their pro stuff and they fall way short of FloTrack in that regard.
I really disagree with this. For US pro meets, Flotrack has none of them outside of BU. Flotrack is good if you are into college track.
Nearly everything pro in the US is USATF+ it seems.
Flotrack has the rights to the obscure European meets and BU. Everything else is college. The obscure European meets (i'm counting this one) you can get with a VPN. Diamond League is on Peacock.
USATF+ has the rights to some of the streaming of the US pro meets as they are associated with USATF . Then you have Sound Running Meets which are streamed free or PPV.
Why do I root so hard against Katir. I should get over it.
In fairness to the Kenyans, Krop ran the fastest indoor 3k by a Kenyan since 2012 (and moves to 5th fastest Kenyan ever in the event).
Ok, Krop was decent, but I think most people thought he’d do better than 6-7 seconds off the pace. It’s all about expectations (of us fans:-) (jk) realistic or not. Fisher wasn’t “horrible” either, but you think if he’s going all the way to Europe he’d be ready to run closer to the AR or why bother. What did Krop or Fisher expect today? I guess that’s what matters. For example, you get the sense that Jakob didn’t expect better than 3:32, not really, so he’s good.

They both ran World Indoors. Whereas Alamirew bombed twice, Girma was really close to Gold last year. I’m not saying he was a scrub but Girma is consistent and really good in Championships. Sure the Steeple isn’t deep but Kipruto, Wale and El Bakkali are all good athletes.
This was an indoor PB for Fisher. I'll have to see what he's done the last few years indoors. Granted last year he had the 12:53.
But could it be that he is the one who needs Woody? If Ahmed is hurt who does Fisher train with.
But also talking to Grijalva it sounds like their might not be room at the inn for Kincaid long-term. Wonder if Woody could go back to Bowerman but switch up parts of the training. Sort of tell Jerry "hey it's not your way or the highway. It's a partnership"
