When you win championships you get talked about
not even close to being most popular. if you look at any thread on NC state, 75% of the posts are from the same 3-4 people such as semihaze, astro and gorun.
they have a small group of very enthusiastic fans (some might call them creepy stalkers).
NC State might be the most likely team EVER to come on letsrun and post about themselves.
Katelyn Tuohy.
Because Al Gore hadn't invented the internet yet when Villanova won seven titles (including six in a row) in ten years from 1989-1998. Also won seven of ten individual titles during this stretch. Vicki Huber, Sonia O'Sullivan, Jen Rhines, Carole Zajac, Carrie Tollefson - five different NCAA champs. They have since added two more team and two more individual titles with Sheila Reid.
A thread getting 40+ likes and 3 pages of replies in an hour, that is not just 3-4 people. NC State is quite popular, the fact that you, a non-fan is here talking about them, proves that.
Mainly because of her.
This. I’m new to following college distance running (last year), so I can’t speak to how popular other teams/individuals have been in the past. However, it does seem like Tuohy is driving an all time high interest in female collegiate distance running. She was arguably the greatest female high school distance runner of all time. And so it’s now a domino effect that NC State seems to be getting more attention than other female distance programs of the past.
College distance running popularity is at an all-time low.

That’s a shame if true. Tuohy, Valby, etc. Some of the best women’s distance competition and performances taking place. I bet we see several records broken over the next year or two,
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
