The AIU has banned Randolph Ross (USA) for 3 years, from 1 July 2022, for Whereabouts Failures and Tampering with any part of Doping Control by an Athlete. DQ results since 18 June 2022.
Does this mean Ross is banned from competing at the NCAA level?
Also, curious what might come out and how this relates to his coach and father who was just hired as the Tennessee head coach. Surely there is no way his father and coach had no idea this was going on.
Between this, and the Tennessee men losing to Notre Dame after snagging their old coach and 10K champion, Tennessee track's big hires earlier this year aren't going to have a very fun 6 month review meeting.
He doesn't lose his NCAA title (he won it on 6/10, DQ results start 6/18). I think technically, the Bowerman only considers what he accomplished as a collegiate athlete. I would say that if his ban or his DQ results fell into his collegiate career, it would be an automatic removal from the Bowerman selection list. This is more grey (he missed tests while a collegiate athlete but the ban didn't start until after his collegiate career was over), so we will see how the voters to decide (if the results haven't already been finalized already).
I forgot Ross was a junior this past year (I thought he had graduated and declared he was going pro), so he technically had a year remaining. I wish I could edit my previous post.
The AIU once again catching an American that the USADA should have easily caught. America is just as dirty as Kenya if not moreso.
Ridiculous comment El K. If America had 15 distance runners banned in 3 months it would be chaos. I doubt we could even get to 5 before people called for a ban
Dwayne should never have been hired by Methodist, let alone anyone else. Much of his career was erased for his past indiscretions. Keeping dudes like him and Dennis Mitchell around are bad for the sport and USATF alike.
Dang imagine getting banned before you can even win the meager money a pro runner gets. All that running in his life and all he's got is one medal and a ruined reputation at 21.
If Ross had any class, he should publicly withdraw from being considered for the Bowerman now. I bet the voting is done already, but it would give the committee enough time to readjust for the next person (had Ross been selected as the initial winner)

America would have plenty more runners banned if the USADA wasn't covering up positive test results. You seriously think that none of the NOP athletes doped?

As opposed to squeaky clean Athletics Kenya?? And the AIU tests American athletes anyway, so thats a moot point.

Every top level American sprinter is dirty....stinkin lars also.
TFN has released an interview with Randolph Ross about this whole situation. Ross accepts the blame, but he calls out a number of issues with the AIU testing and info updating process. Sucky situation.

The voting happened in the summer. Given that this situation was already known about and they kept him as a finalist, I am not sure why this announcement would change anything.
