I am wondering how much a typical Division I track and field head coach makes in terms of salary. Can someone answer, or point me in the right direction to find out please?

Obviously it depends on the quality of the coach, how long he/she has been there, the athletic department's budget, etc. Based on my knowledge I would say that a run-of-the-mill DI head coach makes around $60k/year.
A list was published 5-6 years ago since most are public employees and their salaries were/are public information. At that time, the average salary was $41K with the majority being between $33-$37K. Several top programs were substancially higher raising the average salary. Other factors come into play with salaries such as a coach of men & women making $60K. Do we calculate two $30K positions? Do we calculate potential camps earnings? I don't recall how these and other factors were calculated. The list was some sort of higher education journal and looked at salaries for t&f, swimming, & tennis.
The other question is, did that survey include income from camps and such? I've been told that can often be a lion's share of a coach's income, although I haven't ever heard numbers to support that.
All depends on the program, but if you're not a nationally ranked team, the average is in the mid to high 30's. The head coaches I worked under made 33 and 37. Good luck, it's an awesome and rewarding field... but don't do it for the money. Camp money is minimal. Laters..
