As insane as this story sounds, it is 100% true. So i'm sure most people here are familiar with the ex Oregon 800/1500 runner Matt Wisner and his accolades. Matt is most well known for his frequent appearances as a member of the NewGen crew and being involved in the NCAA running community. That being said, I have some pretty interesting news in regards to his training and more specifically his coaching. It seems evident that Matt is now running for the, "New Eugene" group out of Oregon, but I have some pretty compelling evidence to suggest otherwise. After combing through some Strava posts of some of the members of this team there are some interesting trends. From the looks of it, their training right now is structured around a single, hard workout per week on Wednesday. Matt runs with the group everyday of the week except Wednesday. Being your average runner, I was on an easy run around a month ago and was running past South Eugene High School and decided to run a lap or two on the track. As I arrived someone was obviously working out on lane 1, so I steered clear into an outer lane. As I did this I ran past a pretty tall man, standing off to the side with a black hoodie on who seemed to turn away when I passed as to not make eye contact. He was holding a stop watch so it was somewhat obvious he was coaching this runner in lane 1. As I continue around the track I quickly realize that the guy in lane 1 is Matt Wisner, so I continue to do laps to watch him. As I made another pass of the coach I was almost positive who it was as I passed him for a second time. It was Alberto Salazar (who I believe has a lifetime ban) on the side of the track feeding Matt splits? I was pretty confused by the whole situation but didn't look too much into it at the time. This past weekend at NXN I actually had the opportunity to meet Wisner and while talking to him I mentioned the incident from the other month. He IMMEDIATELY became extremely defensive and ended the conversation. Just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone has any information or news regarding this.
