He had some interesting things to say, including the fact that Centro is now self-coached and living in Utah and that he plans on competing through the 2024 Olympics. Looks like he's not putting too much pressure on himself to make the Worlds team in '23 but really wants to make a fourth Olympics in '24.

I’m surprised a little bit he’s so focused on the 1,500. He’s shown promise at the 5,000, and I’d tend to think the 1,500 would be more of a young man’s game. I do understand the US is stronger at 5,000, so maybe that factors. We haven’t really seen him in a tactical 5,000, so can’t say I know how he’d do relative what will likely be 1500 finals on the slower side.

The truth is Matthew is finished as an Olympian or World Chamionship competitor. The man has had a stellar career but he cannot make the team at either event anymore. He will be almost 35 when the 2024 Olympics are held and it will be over for him.

I'm still looking forwards to what he can do. Nick Willis was running fast enough to get to the Olympics at like age 37, and I think they're pretty comparable since they're both Olympic Champs, among other things. The US scene is kinda stacked now with young talent, but experience matters a lot. I'm not expecting him to medal again but I think he's got some good races ahead of him if he wants it. I hope he gives the 5k a shot sometime soon because he could be great at that.

I legitimately think he should move down to the 800 only because of how horribly bad the US mens 800 scene is. He could actually make the team.
