that would make sense to me. Before Nico came out, I thought he was an SJW since he had his pronouns in his bio. Neither of his brothers have that though, so I'm not sure.
I saw Sahlman wearing a cross around his neck in a post race interview, so that could have been a point of conflict as well
Politics don’t dictate most people in relationships like that. I also don’t think using pronouns quite warrants the SJW label either, especially if you live in California. It’s pretty normalized there.
That’s besides the point, I just don’t think team beef ever really comes from politics. I have teammates that hold beliefs pretty far from mine and it’s not a problem for me and it’s not a problem for them.
I’d honestly believe the whole RunCCG thing if true has a lot to do with all of this. When one of your best guys jumps ship and hires a new coach, it’s damaging to team culture. Lex and Leo in team leadership roles probably aren’t happy about that whole thing, and then Sahlman decisively beating them probably brought the whole thing to a breaking point. When comes down to it it’s all probably dumb highschool team politics drama, and people shouldn’t look into it as much as they are, yet here I am haha.
"Aaron leaked Leo and Lex's phone numbers. Leo and Lex got really mad and they voted Aaron off the team after NXN. Then during the race at NXN Aaron and Lex & Leo didn't work together like they normally do. Lex and Leo tried to surge away from Aaron mid race and that's why they struggled in. Aaron held up double "L"'s when he crossed the finish line. Lex and Leo skipped the award ceremony because they were in the medical tent. Since they race neither of them have like each other's social media posts and there have even been unfollows. Supposedly the team traveled back home without Aaron. There's more but that's all I can write without making a book out of it." (from instagram)
That looked like a W to me = Win. A national champion would not likely hold up an adversary's initials at the finish line. Plus Aaron's brother and parents were there, so he probably came back with them.
Don't know how much this might play into things, but I know that the Sahlmans are wildly conservative (back the blue, trumpist, etc.) while the Young family is liberal. Combine those differences with Nico's very public and unprecedented coming-out story- Risking being one of "those" LR shi*posters, I could definitely see the families being on bad terms due to the Sahlmans reacting unfavorably.
Nico has been commenting/posting stories congratulating Aaron. It doesn’t seem like the potential issue involves Nico.

Well, it involves Nico as a future teammate of Aaron. He has to walk a fine line between a future teammate and his younger brothers. He doesn't want to piss any of them off.
So I think Nico is doing the right thing by congratulating Aaron. It would be odd for a future teammate to be national champion and not congratulate him.
The average coach in high school doesn’t know anything. If a runner wants to be coached by someone else they should be allowed to. Don’t let them run a relay but let them run any individual event for the school. Any coach that doesn’t is just selfish.

What are you talking about? That's the decision of the school, not the coach. And the view of many schools is that you are either all the way on the team, or all the way off the team.
Students don't get to pick and choose their coach, their teammates, which events and meets they feel like running, etc. That would be a complete mess.
If a student wants to quit the school team and run on his own, that's fine. But then he can't show up for school meets whenever he feels like it.
Sorry but this is not true and I can back it up. They posted the same list on October 26, top male 5k times of the season. At this point, the fastest was 14:58 and the time you are talking about is not on the list. However, Aaron Sahlman ran a 14:52 at the Clovis Invite on October 8 and that race is a 5k meaning he would have been on the list. So unless he's switched in what's essentially the last month this is impossible
