Right wing media and many of us on the right lionized Musk as a champion of free speech, he himself cast himself as a free speech absolutist. Some us actually support and believe in that principle.
It’s because not a lot of people are actually as pro free speech as they like to claim they are.
They just don’t like it when there side is the one being censored.

Im also in the camp that privately owned social media does not fall under free speech from a moral or legal standpoint. If you own the platform do whatever tf you want with it. If you mess up and take things too far there’s always a new platform for people to waste a third of their lives on.

Musk is an extremely smart inventor/investor in the technology realm, but running a social media platform is a completely different thing.
Just like Kanye is an extremely talented musician, but politically he’s an uneducated idiot who tends to gravitate to the most extreme, controversial opinion possible.
I could go on and on about current figures that are worshipped for everything they say and do, but it’s all the same when it comes down to it. Appreciate people for what they are talented for, but don’t assume that talent bleeds into their opinions on other subjects.
