Has this course been used before? Soundrunning SM says there will be surprises. Mud pit? Haybales?
Taco trucks.

No Burrito Trucks? Bowerman Track Club entered
Holy holy! This is not a cross country course.
Course reduces to 8 feet wide 100m from the start.
For an 8k, will have almost 3k on a track, 1k on asphalt.
Average width of course is 2 meters.
Its not an xc course. Its around a softball field and random un-runable terrain always in view of some stands. 1 mile loop.
Check back on this thread tomorrow to see which Olympian is seriously injured (or scratches before). Watch the live stream and you will shart your half tights!
Jesse has done amazing things for the sport, but he's out of his element, Donny, with xc.
Variety of terrain. Sounds pretty cross country esque.
3km on the track? That would be 600m per loop? Nope, course runs about 200m per loop x 5 on the track. Pretty sure that doesn't = 3km
1km asphalt? There are 4 small sections per loop, 100m per loop, maybe. Pretty sure that doesn't = 1km
This course is exactly what cross country should be. It will be hectic, it will be hard, it will not be flat perfect golf course grass. The turns are super sharp and there is never more than 100m run in a straight line. XC is not about the clock, many forget that these days.
Decades ago, at the high school I went to and taught at, the course started and finished on the football field.
It was a 2 mile loop that went up the football field, across a practice field, around the baseball field into another open field, across a creek, UP the long bank of the creek. Would through an empty field across the creek, back across the creek to the football field.
If you sat in the home bleachers you could see every step of the way.
Howe sad, YEARS later there are fences, houses and streets. = (
The course got a lot of attention at the press conference.
I posted about the course a couple of weeks ago. It sucks for the runners but it's spectator friendly.
There’s cross country, and then there’s whatever this is. “Hay bails” just cover a concrete drainage system. Funneling 100 athletes thru a man made gate 100 meters into a “gold level” event isn’t cross country. It’s dangerous and pathetic. Something has to change in this industry. Athletes are always at the butt end of every situation.
I'm going to this and will be curious to see how bad it is (course wise). Knowing the area, I suspect that it very well could be awful. If so, I'll be pretty disappointed because there are many great (free or near free) venues around Austin where this could have been done right. It will agitate me somewhat that all these phenomenal athletes could visit my hometown and be treated with a crap course. The Sound Running folks need to consult me next time! (lol)
Sounds like fun.
8 feet wide 100m from the start is a recipe for disaster.
is there any free way to watch this or do I need a RS subscription
I'm pretty sure we're out of luck.
I put a link to the sound running Instagram in the article Uk on homepage but here’s an image of some of course

Turns out the gate was a nothingburger 100m from the start.
