It seems that even if you had a truly benevolent coach, who also wanted to make their kids achieve greatness and win a state title in an area as tough as California, that some kids would break down due to overuse, some would feel mentally pressured and stressed, and even a few would feel resentment of those who were able to achieve greater success than them. How could not be the case over several years?
I suppose the only way to avoid it would be to say, "We are pretty good, and we are satisfied with that, because trying to be great is going to cause some problems for someone."
