This has to be one of the dumbest things written on the site. I remember when China first locked down. I remember thinking, "What's the end game? Once you open up, won't the virus come back?" Answer: Yes. Look a china now.
The virus is vary contagious. We were never going to eradicate it. If the Chinese can't do it, what's the point of us even trying. It was going ot get out there. If the Chinese want to save lives, they should have vaccinated their old.
No different than lies told by democrats here. I still vividly recall De Blasio said we must social distance and wear masks. Then came the BLM and Antifa riots. Right out the horse's mouth was this is historically important so all Covid rules are suspended for the so called protests.
Yes. I call Republicans fascist and want "China-like" Covid policies.
One can have both.
Republicans want one America, one mold, old tradition, and basically individualistic freedom that defies regulations as a nationalist and almost jingoistic perspective (see "China-like" ). In other words, the government should work to make sure that I/me/mine get my best America.
The Covid policies are about health. We should still be collectively masking, distancing, and taking the same precautions as 2020. Covid policies are collective...the good of the whole.
In order for Republicans not to be fascist in light of this description, they would have kept the mandates and adapted commerce and daily life on a state level while keeping the federal mandates.
Kroger, Walmart, Publix, etc do curbside pickup.
Many gas stations still conduct transactions through plexiglass screens.
In regular America, employees, even in "red" Tennessee still mask up while working in restaurants, drive - thrus, etc.
In order for Republicans to not be fascist, they needed to look beyond the government protecting their precious $250k IRA and realize that some workers can't miss work or they will fall on hard times immediately. Especially in fast food or gas stations or any low-paying, no benefit job.
In order for Republicans not to be fascist, they would have had to borrow from international methods of protection and would have had to have woven it into the new tapestry of the new America, even if it defied tradition.
But you couldn't...you had to be stallions, because the backdrop of reckless redneck was a more attractive tapestry.
The school rebel was more important than the Key Club.
I was part of the Key Club under Kiwanis for 3 out of 4 years.
I will always support community and the common good.
Covid policies were for the common good.
Those against it under a fascist President were nationally sanctioned rebels.
So were brownshirts and blackshirts.
So yes. My claim of both is correct. You just disagree because you'd have to evaluate your views on this spectrum.
I'm dirt poor, honest and I live for the common good.
There is a correlation between fascist tendencies and need to keep fear of COVID alive. China, one of the most blatant fascist countries is a perfect example of this. You'll also note the left in this country tends towards the need to keep COVID fear alive, it's because they crave control. Note, The United States of America, North Korea, and China, all ban travelers not "vaccinated" for COVID into their countries. It's a prestigious list to be on.
Note: all of Europe, Australia, all of the Americas (to include Canada), allow unvaccinated entrants.
It is essentially the common cold/flu now. Dropped out of the top ten causes of death, and dwindling from there. It never affected Africa in any significant way.

You call republicans “fascist” but you want China-like Covid policies. Pure projection

And i am ok with any policy that protects all.
Even if you don't like it.
Possibly the dumbest post I've ever read. Good job.
Extremely fast publication (~3 weeks from submission to acceptance) implies no real peer review. Published by Chinese CDC, not in standard academic journal, etc. Fatal flaws have been mentioned ad nauseum elsewhere. This "study" doesn't pass the smell test. Ignore.
Those 300 people. Are they excess deaths or would they have been included in the 2022 projected total number of infectious disease deaths if Covid-19 had never appeared ?

They are excess deaths. 300 people per day equals 109,500 deaths per year. The 2018-2019 flu killed 27,619 people.

Here's an updated picture of total US All-Cause Deaths per year. For the decade prior to 2020, there was an essentially steady linear rise in annual deaths. This rise is attributable to population growth and an aging population.
In 2020 and again in 2021 there is an enormous jump in annual deaths. In 2022 total deaths have decreased relative the two previous years, but are still well above the trend one might expect from the pre-covid years.
It's anybody's guess on what might happen with new variants, but my guess for 2023 is that we'll start to settle in even closer to the pre-covid trend, but still offset above it for a period of years as we well and truly enter the endemic stage.
