New HS coach here. Coaching at a small school, girls and boys, 6th-12th grade.
For XC season, I mostly ignored gender and used age/ability/speed to form workout groups. It seemed to work well, but XC is unique in that they're all training for 3k or 5k.
As we move to track, I wonder if I should consider gender more prominently in the training I plan for the kids. Do girls respond better or worse than guys to different kinds of training?
For example: Should male and female 800 meter runners have the same workouts? Boys running 2:00-2:20. Girls running 2:50-3:05, and therefore more aerobic?
Do any experienced coaches have advice?
