Nope, LA is a crappy place for anyone who enjoys distance running.
As much as I dislike LA, UCLA is actually in a very nice part of town (right next to Beverley Hills). I wouldn't judge Brosnan too harshly just yet. It takes years to build a program. Judging him on his first-year results is not a realistic evaluation of his methods or ability to recruit.
He should be judged on the same scale as Bernie Lagat was in his first year. That said, he has quite a hole to dig out of and nobody's convinced that UCLA is going to turn its back on their full T&F program legacy to go distance heavy. They might finish ahead of Cal at PAC 12s and regionals but nobody should confuse them for Oregon, Stanford, or Colorado.
That's why Stanford, CPSLO, and even UCSB punk them in recruiting distance runners more often than not.
All great schools in desirable locations. What’s your point?
Better schools/locations with the same recruiting base. That's not going away because Brosnan is working at UCLA. CPSLO just got a hot coach, too. UCLA still picks after even Oregon, might be even with Washington now.

If success is possible at Syracuse and Oklahoma State, success is possible at UCLA.

I wouldn't doubt Brosnan and UCLA. Of course we can't promise huge success, but I wouldn't be surprised to see UCLA do big things within a few years.
Far too early to make judgements on the past cross country season, but what these men and women do this spring should be an indication of his coaching. At least the direction they can go.
Maybe. He's the greatest. In L.A. they don't care though unless he has former or current athletes that win Olympic medals. There's so many medals it's taken for granted.

They only finished 2 spots higher at regions than last year
Doesn’t show much progress here
Being the best HS coach doesn’t automatically mean best College coach
Maybe if he recruits the best runners in the country or best foreigners it might be a different story

The title indicates the OP speculates that UCLA will never win a national title in any sport at any time past, present, or future. It is NOT about only track.
Since UCLA has already won a national championship in at least one sport the premise of the thread is already wrong.

He got hired in August. What did you expect?
So? He started coaching Np in 2016. And that year they went to state for the first time in forever Doug Soles started coaching Herriman this year and they went from 9th in the state last year to an automatic NXN trip this year. And many varsity/top JV guys PRed by 2 or 3 minutes from last year

Do you really think the quick improvements that are possible at the high school level can be achieved at the D1 collegiate level? If so, you know nothing about running and should refrain from participating in this conversation.
UCLA only cares about Olympic medals. That's one of the Olympics four top medal schools in history. All L.A. They've dominated winning the Olympics for 100 years now before America was middle class and had the luxury of college sports. The Hollywood execs drool over the volleyball girls. College trophies make good bonus money for the coaches and are nice too though but glossed over in Hollywood. All time stats have USC #1, Stanford #2, UCLA #3, Berkeley #4. All are majority L.A. athletes. Pepperdine is a top Olympics volleyball and swimming school that matters hugely to the Hollywood entertainment industry as well but is laughed at since Pepperdine makes students take 3 religious classes to graduate with a BA/BS.
That's L.A. In Oklahoma, Lincoln Riley is more popular than Oklahoma native son Brad Pitt. In L.A. Lincoln Riley has to wait in line at Starbucks with the homeless just like everyone else.
Stanford and Berkeley are very much not in LA, and I suspect aren't majority LA athletes (particularly Stanford).
Mostly L.A. Appx 2/3rds I'd guess. Same for U Saint Frisco, Silicon Valley Semiconductor U at Santa Clara, U of Landlocked Pacific, UC Horse Slaughter Farms at Davis, UC Saint Cruise, St Marys of the Estates at Moraga, Cal St East Bay Drive By Shootings. Cal State I hate L.A. at Eugene, Cal St Party Everynight at Chico, CS I could get into any other public school at Stanislaus, CS Treehuggers Humboltd, CS Weapons Lab at San Luis Obispo, did I miss any?
