Jonathan Gault has written one of my favorite all-time articles on LetsRun where he catches up with Craig Engels who explains why he's left Pete Julian and gone back to Ryan Vanhoy, his collegiate coach.
Engels said breaking up with Pete was way worse than breaking up with any girlfriend but it needed to be done as he is a social animal and being coached by a guy living in another city ended up being too much to bear.
"I was told 28 days (in Flagstaff), no more, no less, and [Pete] had me stay for 50 days...I saw him twice in 50 days. That was tough. This one was almost a tipping point for my career with him. I was paying for my own camp in Flagstaff and recruiting my own training partners, Craig Nowak and other friends that I was living with. And I was like, is this my job? I joined a team."
You also learn about his last-minute trip to Portugal this year where he bought his ticket en route to the airport and how he ran pretty darn fast post-trip while training with the girls of the UAC. SC members, the article is up for you now. Everyone else has to wait 48 hours.
