I was at my local running store today shopping for clothes and the store employee said that I needed running shoes with better arch support, based on his observation of me walking around in my old running shoes. I asked him why and he said that he observed the shoe collapsing in the middle. Oddly, this is not the first time that someone has said that to me in recent years.
I always run in neutral shoes and have had very few injuries over the years and never anything affecting my feet or knees. I used to run in stability shoes 20+ years ago but did not like them.
Would it still be helpful to have shoes with better arch support? I would say I have medium arches and people have observed that my arches tend to collapse when I walk (perhaps this is an age thing as I am in my late 40's).
I guess I am asking, is there any benefit to better arch support if you're not injured?
