This is an interesting point. Henrik ran his fastest 1500m at age 23 and Filip at age 25, for example. Then of course Jakob may have trained harder at a younger age than they did. This makes it even more likely that we have seen Jakob at his peak at 1500m but not necessarily in the longer distances.
I see him going under 3:28 but I am not sure if he's willing to undergo the "pain cave" required to run <3:27/<7:25/<12:40/<26:30 which are all attainable for him in the next 3-5 yrs
* There are only 168 hours in a week. The more effort J.I. puts into 5000m & 10000m, the weaker he will be in international championship 1500m races. J.I. will continue to be able race glorified 3:29.xx 1500m TT, but 10000m training is at the expensive of 800m training. Some 800m-type training is necessary for international championship 1500m races.
How many 3:29.xxs has Jakob run this season?
How many other runners have run X amount of sub 3:30s in a year?
people talk about Jakob not having anybody to push him. I haven't been around long. What was a typical margin of victory for El Guerrouj in his nine sub 3:28 races and six sub 3:46 miles?
I know at least a couple of them were close, but all of them?
If Jakob doesn't improve on his 1500 PR, it will likely he because he chooses to focus on the 5000. He absolutely clowned the East Africans at Worlds so hard that I feel like he had to be in sub-12:40 shape at the time.
No shame in that but Jakob is turning 22 in a week and I see him limited in his turnover which means he will likely not run faster at 1500m than he has. Then he will probably continue to be a sub 13 and sub 27 man who occasionally wins a global championship for a few more years. This is his ceiling, so best possible personal bests would be 12:40 and 26:25. A pretty good career one might say.
Jesus, you even have to play the race card in a simple discussion as to whether Jakob has peaked or not? Don't you honestly think racism is a serious issue that shouldn't be trivialized just to score points on a freaking running forum?
You need to educate yourself. When someone says something is not black and white, it has a different meaning than race. Please use google or phone a friend to use this as an opportunity to learn something.
I'm surprised your post is allowed to stand. The mods have chosen to see any play on the use of "white" as racially bigoted.
Except me looking at established facts, such as Jakob went slower this year than both of the last 2 years.
Let's not forget last year was in a champs setting and he co-rabbited the thing with Tim. This year he gets nice time trials but still slower.
I'm sure I pointed out at the time that the late season might be his last opportunity to improve that PB with a well-planned time trial. Next year might be too late! You never know, so never waste good form.
Of course, if he doesn't happen to make it next year, some half-wit will dig that up, call it a prediction and do a snark dance about it.

You cannot make reasonable comparisons from championship races to TT races. Using your logic, Nikolay Kirov was in sub-1:43 800m shape, 1980 Summer Olympics because he nearly beat S. Coe. J.I. won't race sub-12:40 5000m.
