I’m 41, so I know my best running days are behind me, but I’ve had chronic insertional achilles tendonitis for the last three years. X-rays have shown no haglunds or heel spurs. Tried prp, weekly PT and massage, rolling, changing shoes, strengthening my calves/hips/glutes, eswt, dry needling, heel lifts, night splints, resting for four months x2 and six months once. Done so many of the eccentric exercises (increasing weight and on flat ground).
Honestly, I’m a dad of three kids with another one coming soon, and I’m starting to feel selfish about all of the time, money, and energy I’m throwing at this, but I keep thinking about how nice it would be to run again. Qualified for the Olympic trials in the marathon twice in my day… not trying to sound full of myself, I’m just trying to say that it is important to me and it’s hard to gradually become increasingly more out of shape over three years and not be able to run over 2 miles when I spent from age 22-35 running 110+ miles a week. Obviously, I won’t be doing that now as family and work are the priorities, but I do just miss it a lot.
So, I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with the tenex procedure. Does it work? Any recovery stories? I’m willing to give this achilles thing one more shot, so I’m just trying to figure out if it is worth it or not.
I really appreciate it.
