WR possible but unlikely.

She couldn't break the arguably easier 1,000m WR so my money is on no.

I think Hassan could take it down if she only focussed on the 1,500m but she is far away from that sharpness at the moment.

I'll guess 3:51 high.

At least Faith is going for it.

Where are you getting this? Faith has never stated she's going for the world record. People, including the media, are just projecting all this world record tali on her. She did, however, say she'd like to improve her personal best.

The odds are on the side of Kipyegon provided that the conditions are good enough.

Would love to see a fast clean men’s 3,000m where Grant sets an AR.

Some of the guys like Krop have raced a lot recently coming off of the Common Wealth games and WC so they ultimately may not be able to hold the set pace.

He closed the last 1600 in 4:00 at the US championships on a fairly warm day. I think there's a real chance he can run under 7:30 if there are a few people up front moving cleanly at that pace. AR is 7:29.00 from Lagat, I wouldn't be shocked if that gets beat but it would be very impressive. An 7:35-7:40 would be a bit disappointing. He closed the last 3k of his indoor 5k AR in sub 7:40.

Hoping Fisher is feeling on and a bunch of guys go for it. If he is feeling good and really wants it, at some point he may have to take it and hang on. Hopefully the East Africans and the Aussie are of the same mindset and it’s a drag fest rather than a pump ones chest “I won” in a relatively slow mid 7:30’s effort.

Fisher should run an American record and if it’s set up at 1600 or 2000 he should go and push on if nobody else will. Not like you want to leave it to a kick vs. Lobalu or Krop anyhow.

Sub-9:10 would continue a spectacular recent progression for Wayment--her pb in May 2021 was 9:31. As for the women's 1500 WR...Kipchoge is more likely to drop a sub-2:01 at Berlin this year. Selfishly, if that mark falls in my lifetime, I'd prefer to lose my effing mind while watching a packed race with everyone in full flight, something like Doha 2019.

The men's 3000 is crowded. Jeez why not keep it to 12-13 guys, so as to avoid mishaps?

Okay, so she’s trying to improve her PB without breaking the world record or moving up on the all time list, got it.

Assuming Akbache and Birgen are the pacers. That would put it at 15 racers.

Woody, Klecker, Hay and Tanner will likely have some self-awareness to know that they should go to the mid-pack or back to just hop on the train and PB. The concern would then be over Chelimo (who is likely in no shape to be at the front) mixing it up and sabotaging the pace/race as part of his feud with Kipkorir Kimeli. If the top group is allowed to follow the pace it should be fast, but there's no accounting for Chelimo elbowing and surging and then slowing down the pace and creating a gap to the pacemakers.

There was no announcement from Kipyegon on a wr attempt, so I assume she's just going for the win. I would like to see it. You could see what a talent she was from her incredibly compact, efficient form when she was beating Mary Cain at, I think, World Juniors in the 1500m way back, and she has the ability to break 3:50. Pacers for that task to 1k on the women's side are very hard to come by, but then there are plenty that can get her through 800m. I predict a Grant Fisher American record if it is a fast race. However, I didn't see any of the big dogs in the race, so it may not go down to the mid 7:20s, which he would need to trail behind for the 7:27 high-7:28 he's capable of right now.

Is she not in shape to attempt the wr? Seems like just going for the win is child’s play for her. Too easy.

Also, seems like the race of the meet will be the men’s 200. Can Lyles hold often Knighton another time? Can Lyles break 19.3?

You are right about not letting Krop hang around long enough to cut in, hit ones knee and cause total momentum lose.

Gonna be a hot one in Monaco but Fisher has proven he can run well in heat. Kincaid and Klecker not so much. Hay is a doctor so he'll be sure to monitor his heart rate well and stay in the back.
