You really think Eileen is going on their YouTube channel? She hangs out with the likes of Lewis Hamilton….maybe just as a goof to prove “she’s a regular college kid….”
Good luck to the twins. I think Stanford is a good fit for them. They have that preppy, rich, privileged type of vibe going on. Not to say they don’t work hard and obviously talented but the preppy Stanford vibe fits them well.
They take AP classes so they gotta have at least some sort of high intelligence
Lots of kids "take AP classes". My next door neighbor actually teaches AP courses at our local HS and that doesn't mean the students who take her AP classes get solid A's. This subject was brought up before.
To be blunt: Leo and Lex taking AP classes doesn't have jack to do with them getting into Stanford nor does it tell you just how smart they are. I know kids who nailed 5 AP classes, perfect grades, and Stanford wouldn't give them a look. But...if they were this person's child or that person's, they'd have been accepted.
Their running ability is what is getting them accepted, not their scholastic ability.
Totally agree with this poster. He or she was the first one to nail it. They probably aren't Stanford material, but..they are great runners and smart enough. Without the running, they do not get in.
Running is not there future a solid career is and they are setting themselves up nicely. I remember being a high school athlete not at there level but had a few schools interested and money was not really an issue. My dad wanted me to get a good education. I had a D-3 school very interested Bowdoin College and I applied and the coach fought to get me in. The school currently has a 10% acceptance rate. its been around 20 years I have a solid educational background but regret not taking that opportunity when it was offered.

well apart from the massive speculation on their academic resume sure. You’re 12 years removed from college and 16 removed from the application process and the original poster is probably even older.
also the original post was in response to saying they could succeed academically at stanford (actually it was could they get above a 2.5). nothing to do with getting in
I have always wondered where these top Stanford runners ended up.
Someone here must know. I am sure that a few became very successful.
Oral and maxillofacial surgeon Alicia Follmar

Alicia Follmar's dad is an oral sugreon and she currently works at his office in the Palo Alto area. I am in that field, and can assure you having a parent who is an OS makes going down that job path much easier.

I graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and I will continue my education at Berkeley. The application process at Stanford hasn’t changed. The poster saying they wouldn’t get in without their running ability is correct. The poster is also correct about Celebrity kids getting in who wouldn’t have otherwise. Mr. Lowe’s son is a perfect example. You are over-analyzing. They are great runners, period.
I ran one year there, not very successfully, in the mid 90s. When I think back to my teammates, there are plenty who have gone on to fulfilling and interesting careers: in tech, in mechanical engineering, elsewhere. One wrote a memoir that did well last year.
As a fan and alumnus, I'm thrilled Lex and Leo are going there. It's a great school. There's nothing about a degree from there, though, that guarantees success. It may open some doors and give you a head start in your 20s. But by the time you're in your 30s, many things matter more. And my instinct is that being an athlete there, like most D1 schools, can narrow the college experience in a way that makes life post-graduation harder.

alright Stanford boy, lets have some reading comprehension here.
This started when someone said they're not too good academically and that a 2.5 from Stanford in a bad degree is borderline worthless. Someone else then responded that the twins are at least decently intelligent so that probably wouldn't be the case (but no claims of saying they'd get in without running). Then presumably the same person responds that he wasn't saying they weren't smart, just that they wouldn't get in without running. 0/2 on remembering his own words there. Then, he goes on to add that people with their grades wouldn't get in without being related to powerful people (he does not know what grades they get and is entirely speculating. for some context though, Nico had a 4.7 in hs, so that might be the ballpark we're dealing with).
Admissions are hardly predictable. A certain gpa does not guarantee you will or will not get in to a particular school. Would they have gotten in without their running? Statistically not likely, but being this absolute about it is odd, especially since that was not even the original topic.
As for whether they could succeed there, the original topic, I don't see why not. Admissions officers at top schools (Yale maybe?) have said 70% of their applicants can handle the work load. I know athletes and others without spotless high school academic records that are doing just fine at rojos alma mater.
At the end of the day its strange to diminish what these kids have done or what they're capable of. Especially in the case of some posters who are twice their age.

Not to diminish what they have done, but point blank they could not get into Stanford without running. Just like everyone else at Stanford couldn’t get in without their biggest extra curricular. At the end of the day to get into Stanford you need very good standardized test scores. Top 5% of your hs class. And an absurd extra curricular that stands out. Theirs is there running. For other Stanford students it might be their research. If you took away someone’s capstone research project they probably don’t get into Stanford either. Now with that said they aren’t as smart as everyone else who goes there. But most kids who go there are burned out. They’re gonna be fine. Everyone attacking how they’ll handle themselves is just mad that Stanford might just win the next 4 national titles.

Sure if take out running entirely. Because then you're taking away 15-20 hours a week of involvement with significant demonstrated leadership, passion, and initiative. But if they still have all that just as 16:00 guys instead of 13:40, so not going "because" of running, they'd still have a chance. Trust me, not everyone at schools of this caliber has crazy impossible accomplishments in high school.

Nobody gets into Stanford without some huge hook. 1600 SAT's and 4.0 GPAs are a dime a dozen these days, I can guarantee you even if you didn't lose a single point on any test in high school you will be instantly rejected if you don't have something special to stand above the crowd. Meanwhile tons of 1400 SATs and 3.7 GPAs get accepted every year because they have that special "wow" factor. In Lex and Leo's case that factor is their running, for most other people it's something that has to do with a nice academic interest or a demonstrated passion for some sort of social justice. Even if the Lex and Leo didn't pursue running in college, is anyone going to deny that being the best HS runner in the country (and having a YouTube channel with almost 2 million views) is not a good enough hook in order to get them into Stanford?
Smart choice this shows they are looking outside of the running box. The anticipated schools that the running community thought as possible selections for the Leo and Lex
NAU: Acceptance rate of 83% (Not a resume standout)
Colorado: Acceptance rate of 82% (Not a resume standout)
Virginia: Acceptance rate of 26% (High selective looks good on a resume)
UCLA: Acceptance rate of 12.3% (High selective looks good on a resume)
Stanford: Acceptance rate of 5% (six figure salary post running)
Running is not there future a solid career is and they are setting themselves up nicely. “Running is not THEIR future…”
“I remember being a high school athlete not at THEIR level…”
Please do tell us more about the “SOLID EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND” you have!!
You are correct. Thousands of white and Asian males are rejected from Highly Selective schools with perfect test scores and GPAs and multiple AP classes and many extracurricular activities. There is no way they get in without the coach using a pink folder in them. This isn't really debatable.
The 6 figure post running part is what I disagree with. Yes they are likely to start at 6 figures after college if they get a real major but not with a soft major. And if they go pro 5 years, nobody is hiring somebody who is 5 years removed from their education.

Yep, in the end several of you are merely repeating what I already posted. They aren't getting in without their running and that's a fact. Now you continue to regurgitate it over and over and it goes back to my original post. Unless you are Katie Couric's daughter or Rob Lowe's son, you aren't getting in.
Being a 4.0 in High School isn't enough as that does not tell the whole story, not even close. Being in a tough STEM program, nailing all of your classes, having great ACT results, etc...still doesn't guarantee you acceptance into Stanford. But you can have less qualifications than that if you are "connected" OR do something really well, let's say like running for instance;)
As for freekiprop2, althought your post was directed to the poster "2018 Grad", your lack of intelligence and reading comprehension might be smart enough to get you into a school like Kentucky or a decent Community College, but not Standford.
