Hi all- I realize this is a running site but I have to say I find some good advice nuggets on here regarding health-finances- relationships, so thought I'd reach out. 1st available Dr. Appointment isn't until 3 weeks and didn't want to wait that long to get some advice.
So, I had my 2nd vaccine of Moderna in April 2021- no booster. Just got Covid for the 1st time- that I know of, June 3rd. I'm a school teecher, and had to miss the last week and a half of work, including my 5th grade class graduation. I also didn't run during those 10 days, and had a half marathon scheduled for June 19th that I ended up not running in. My symptoms were not too bad: Slight fever 1st and 2nd night, very slight cough, I lost taste/smell for 1 day around day 5, but mostly was very tired the whole time. But then things were pretty much better after that week.
I went to Miami for 5 days and did a few 6 mile runs out there. Even coming from LA that heat was intense, especially the humidity, it was like I threw my shirt in the ocean that's how wet it was after those runs. I came back Friday- caught an early flight where I woke up at 4am, which is 1 am in CA where I live. So I was a little tired the first couple days back.
Sunday, I did a 7-mile run, and afterwards I was beat. It felt like when I first started running ab 10 years ago, I remember after some of those first 14–18-mile Sunday runs I would just wipe out for hours, that's kind of how I felt after this 7 miler. Then yesterday tired and today did a 5 miler and tired. Not a crushing fatigue but pretty lazy.
I'm nervous that when I go back to work next week, I will still feel this way, at least now I'm still on summer vacay, I don't know how much of it is from jetlag/ travelling. But I read something about Covid and Post exercise malaise that basically makes people more tired than usual after exercise.
Just curious if anyone else on here has had Covid, seemed to recover, then ab 2 months later had any fatigue or other symptoms. I'm wondering if I caught Covid again so soon? I am not sure if I can take a test since it's only been 2 months, I heard you have to wait like 3 months before you can start testing again- at least that's how it is with my work. We all get tested weekly, but if you were positive, they won't test you for 3 months. It's kind of messing with me now, getting a little nervous worrying.
But then I think, if I can still run 7 miles, and likely more- just not really training for anything right now- can it really be that serious. I'm 44 male btw.
One other kind of weird side note, I went out on Father's Day with my dad. Raos Hollywood if anyone has ever been they have some stiff drinks I usually have two there, that night I had 4. But really, I am not a big drinker in general. Woke up and driving to the gym I felt very nervous, high BP and HR, shaking uncontrollably, to the point where I just drove to the ER. DR. said it was likely alcohol withdrawal, but it was about 2 weeks after I had Covid, so wondering if it was the alcohol or is all this stuff related??
Anyway, regardless of if I get some good advice on here, it helped just to jot it all down. But yea if anyone has any "Long Covid" stories or also got better than worse, I'd like to hear maybe what to expect. Thanks for listening.
