Too bad UCLA won't be in the PAC12 much longer. Would have loved to see how the UCLA team compete under his leadership against the Powells' UW teams and Schumacher's at Oregon.
I hope Steve Hawkins and Tanya Brosnan can keep the momentum going this year. One name noticeably absent from this year's group at NP is Hector Martinez. I wonder what happened to him. Brosnan has been known to make dramatic pronouncements, but even so saying that Lex (and Leo) is in 13:20 shape is mind boggling. Let's see what they actually do

They'll run the same races they always run except the conference champs. They will still see UW & Oregon in the big invites plus the regional meet.

Well, they are still gonna win even without Hector. Dev Doshi and Aaron Cantu would be really good 4 and 5.
Tammy Draughon also seems to be doing a good job keeping the Great Oak momentum going. With that, and Doug Soles coaching at Herriman, USA is getting more nationally elite high school teams now.

Yes, obviously the 13:20 is a bit over the top as are many of his proclamations, but clearly he thinks they are in better shape than last year which is a scary thought. As a former east coast runner, would love to see them take on one of the historic Northeast courses like Holmdel/VCP and get the record there. Ed Ches, one of the greatest HS XC runners ever, has both of them.

Being originally from NYC I would have loved to see what NP could do at the Manhattan Invitational at VCP. Last year's team would have smashed F-M's all time average and Ches' record would be in jeopardy.
Damn he bails right when his mega-talents graduate lol. But honestly pretty happy for him, I think anyone would choose the prestige and salary of a coach at a world-renowned school over a HS coaching job. Very interested in what he can do in a collegiate program. We're gonna see exactly how good of a coach he is.
Don’t like the dude at all but I fault him zero percent for this decision. If he has the option, he has to take this job. Good for him.
Why is it whenever someone is successful the conversation is always started with Don't like the person? What do you not like about Sean the fact that he creates champions, or did he strike a nerve with you about the whole 4:20 mile not being fast. Let me guess your almost 4:20 mile is the conversation starter for you.

I asked Sean Brosnan a few months ago if Lex and Leo would be interested in going after the Balboa Park course record at Eastbay nationals, and he said they aren't interested in a course just because it's famous. He said that they like running fast times, and they like winning as a team.
So they will probably run Woodbridge/Silverlakes and RunningLane, and not run Balboa Park/Holmdel/Van Cortlandt.

This brings up an interesting point. While it's true that there are some very good coaches now I do believe that one of the legacies that Brosnan leaves is what I would describe as the Brosnan Effect. Love him or hate him there's no denying that he's had athletes with eye-catching performances. That in turn has sparked considerable interest and among coaches has prompted a renewed commitment to up their game. While it's true that there are coaches that are as good, if not better, than Brosnan, his success has had a positive ripple effect.

I think they could have had their top 3 pushing 11:40 last year, if not faster. If I remember correctly, Ches set the 11:55 record in 90+ degree weather and was never pushed. Ostberg came within 2 seconds of breaking it a few years back, and I wouldn't consider him an all time talent like the others. 4 guys pushing each other through those back woods would be huge.

No, not every conversation starts with "Don't like the person" when someone is successful. As an example, Schumacher gets all kinds of garbage on here, but it's not because people don't like him or think he's a jerk. They don't like the fact his team doesn't race much or he has a drug cheat on his team or he avoids the media or other reasons. Never because they don't like him, because guess what, he's a nice guy.
It's a total deflection to say people don't like Brosnan because they're jealous or because he's successful. So many people say they don't like him because he's an a-hole.

Interesting, thanks for the context. Make it more likely then that they will be back at Runninglane for Nationals.
