Steiner is capable of splitting 48 low but she's had a very busy week (and extremely long year). This was a great race for her considering she has to be tired and also they put the 200m runner on the longest leg (because of the cut-in). Well deserved double gold medals for Steiner, she can be a 200m champion one day.

Why do so many people incorrectly think this? As long as you run the cut in on a diagonal, the second leg of a 4x400 is the same distance as the other 400 legs.

I think people confuse the reasoning. Since it's the only controlled exchange in the 4x4, you can reliably get the baton to the outgoing runner at the start of the zone and have them run 405-410m. In theory you could do this for other legs, but the possibility of having other teams around that could interfere makes it a bit risky and less consistent.
I am just wondering where all the smart people who thought Mu could and would run 1 hour after her 800 went?
Clearly those people never broke 2 in the 800. Unless, of course, they're thinking back to their high school glory days where they did that double in a dual meet and think that the world championship compares.
Is her 1:56 faster than the 1:56 that I ran in HS? Are the tracks longer now?

Athing Mu said after her 800 that she was dealing with a medical issue, although she didn't say exactly what the medical issue was. She wasn't interested in doing the 4x400.

No, but I'm told My actually runs about 812 meters by running away from the rail so...
I would like to see Steiner run an individual 400. I would bet that she could be in the low 49s. I don’t think that she has run the 400 since high school so it would be good to see what she is capable of now. She had a really long season with a lot of races so I’m not sure we will see that 400 this year. If I had to guess I would say she might run a few meets in Europe and then pack it in until indoor season.
The 4x400 team I would really like to see is McLaughlin, Mu, Diggs, and Steiner. If not Mu, maybe a healthy Muhammad.

Abby Steiner was asked right after the 4x400 at the World Championships what other races she was going to run this year and she said she was shutting down her season.
She's already run 57 races this year. She needs a break.
