Realistically the fields best chance was to ignore the leaders, run 62s and hope your 3:55 was going to be good enough. Seriously what can do you when your competitors are 4s faster than you are? Maybe 3 or 4 of you can make it slow and hope stuff happens but I am pretty sure the medalists all have faster 800s/400s.
Let me get this straight. You start off just under 15-flat for the first 100m. That should be more than fast enough to be in contact with anyone trying to jump the race from the gun, only problem is you're nearly half a second down on the leader. Okay, you pick up the pace a bit -- gotta try and keep contact -- and come through your first 200m in 29.68 *in the women's 1500m* (that's super fast) only now you're down nearly a full second from the leader and half a second from the tail end of the group that's beginning to separate. Are you seriously saying at that point you're supposed to accelerate further to tack on to a group running 3:55 *1600m* pace as a 3:58 *1500m* runner?
Also, the second 200 was even faster. They went through 400 is 55 seconds. That's about world record pace for the MEN'S 1500. That's monstrous
The 55 second graphic and call was an error, instantly corrected to 58 seconds. Still flying but not quite insane.

Try to keep up (pun intended). They did not go through the first lap in 55 seconds!
Not sure how almost NINE seconds off the winner and 6 from third gets anyone that stupid MF thing anyway. I hate that stupid "MF" thing, and even then, this is not nearly deserving lol. She literally was up the track from third let alone even in this race, not even in the same race action. It kind of reinforces how low the bar is for U.S. Women's 1500-10K standarsd really are when you get a superlative getting crushed by 8.x seconds.

Sure - my point is just that it was actually pretty similar to Pre race wise yet she went much slower. Her first lap only 0.7 off what it was at Pre, took the bell in Pre at 2:58.1, took the bell yesterday at 2:57.4 yet ran 3s slower.
The entire supporting cast who were also at Pre went slower (Hailu, Hull, McGee)- it's one thing to run a 3:58 off a 61/62 first lap in a diamond league, its another to be able to have a 3:58 in your legs like that heats and semi finals. To have the aerobic base to bounce back for a final is tough.
I would back nearly every one of the 4th to 13th placed finishers to beat Laura Muir in a straight out 400m race however Laura has amazing ability to redline and hold on.

You'd back almost all the 4th to 13th to beat the 1:56 800 woman who has closed a 3000m in a *56* last 400?
If you have told me a month ago Sinclaire would be the top finishing 1500m runner for US, I’d have thought you were crazy. No way she beats out Ellie…. But was I wrong . Her and Cory did amazing and once again, Ellie disappointed

Kudos for the bold take
Absolutely I do, just an opinion as that race will never happen but if you watch Laura Muir in an 800m she is literally sprinting the first 200m. And yes I'm well aware of the double your 400 plus 8 second rule however there are always anomalies to any equation and I believe Muir's speed endurance is off the charts
6th in the WORLD as a 24 year old in her 1st ever world championship is damn good. The people she is racing are a lot faster than Jenny Simpson's competition in 2011.
How many times were you 6th in the world before turning 25?

Yes is was an major accomplishment! I’m proud of her. But the MF thread is for someone who does something mind blowing, jaw dropping, crazy. And she was in a race where she was a complete non factor

Remember when DeBues-Stafford, like 3 weeks after her 24th birthday, 4 months post graduation, ran 3:56.12 to come 6th in Doha 2019, was still in the medal contention at 200m to go? Vs the same 3 medalists as yesterday plus prime Hassan and Houlihan? Was 1.5s off a medal.
The answer why Sinclaire is a MF Johnson and while it wasn't G MF DS is cause she's American while Stafford ain't. Don't need to justify it as if it is a super crazy performance beyond she was an American who ran decently.

Or, remember in that same race when Gudaf Tsegay beat both DeBues-Stafford and Houlihan to run 3:54.38 and win bronze at age 22?
Or when Faith Kipyegon won her first Olympic Gold at age 22, running the last 800 in 1:57.2? Age 24 is not young for a world-class runner.
