University of Minnesota director of track and field and cross country Matt Bingle is pleased to announce the full signing class for the 2022-23 cross cou...
I heard they got all these freshmen with less than one scholarship. Why is everyone on this thread such a know it all? Too bad you were never given your shot to save the program!
Maybe use google and learn that there are multiple state champions in this group.
State champions or not, most of that class will never be competitive at the conference level, let alone nationally. Ward, Vanacker, and Griepetron are the only ones who are at the level a nationally competitive program should be recruiting. They'll probably be the best class in the Big 10 other than Michigan and Wisconsin, but that really isn't saying much.

Yeah and you have to note that McCleary was a state champ of the smaller class (A). People in AA and AAA ran faster times
Shane Streich is another guy who underperformed relative to his obvious talent at the U.
The verdict on this program since the mid-90s is that Plasencia, and now Hopkins, can't get the best talent and can't develop the talent they do get. Vicious cycle. Hopkins is better than Plas in that she's not self absorbed and not autistic, but the training is really a hodge podge and so are the results.
Someone mentioned the Hasz twins. They were nowhere this spring. Only guys that ran well were the male steeplers. Kohut regressed. Hoeft (who caught one and won Big 10 indoors) is in the wrong event and has not progressed.
There's no reason this program shouldn't be duking it out with Wisconsin every year. Weather sucks both places, but Minnesota has better facilities and Mpls is a great running town.
I hope they see this and hire you, buddy.
Utter trash adobe. Hopkins can’t develop talent? Ok, so 5th and 7th in women’s cross last 2 years. Kohut-Jackson and Strandemo go from walk ons to Big Ten champs and All Americans. Kohut-Jackson didn’t regress, she ran 4:35 and 9:02 indoors in 22 then got injured and missed outdoor NCAA . She came back and made USA steeple final then ran 4:26 and won the Ryan Shay mile in July
Plasencia was a good runner, but an egomaniac as a coach.
The real virtuous coach was Griak even in his 70s. Plasencia wasnt the same person.
I dont dislike Plas he shoulda just been a legend that visited every season dinner. Not coach 100% of the time.
I think someone has an axe to grind. IT seems to me that Placencia's runners performed very well over the years. Car to prove how they didn't?
You like to throw your imagined clout around but don't pretend like you've been paying close attention to University of Minnesota distance running for the last twenty years and can speak with authority on Plasencia's coaching chops. Listen to the people who have.
Worth noting that the Gophers got beat by South Dakota State at Griak this weekend.

Plasz has retired. Why continue to rip his coaching? Also why is it worth noting the Gophers got beat by SD State at a meet in September? They are obviously rebuilding and redshirting all the Freshmen. Perhaps you could relax and give the current coaches a chance to continue to recruit and develop.

You sound like you work in the Twins front office.
Back to the original post. Why would the coaches redshirt all the freshman? I don’t see this group every making a podium at ncaa. Let the healthy kids run and build the program year after year.
