Yet another mischaracterization of the facts. His name is Steve Blackledge, he's been a sports writer for decades and he said nothing about her not being happy, here's exactly what he reported.
If you interpret the "premature part" as being that she didn't want it announced yet, then at least that's a step forward and you would be making that judgement based on something, as opposed to nothing previously. You would still , however, be wrong since she hasn't signed anything yet and has not mentioned Puma, Nike or anyone else she is in negotiations with. There are very few people in her inner circle that know about this so if there was a leak it would not be hard to find out who it was. There was no leak, the tweet about Puma and 2 million was made up and spread like a wildfire. Again, why is it so hard for people to "unbelieve" something they just heard about and have no evidence to support? Even LRC isn't reporting the "story" and they aren't exactly the gold standard in journalistic integrity.
Abby Steiner has informed me that while she does intend to sign an endorsement deal to go pro, widespread Twitter reports today are premature as she plans to make it official July 14.
I've been following this since I first heard about it and I'm right there with you. People blindly believed the 'news' prematurely without doing any research. It will be funny when it's announced she signed with Nike for a lot less. Or, any other shoe company besides Puma.

It might be less but probably not “a lot less.” I’m also hoping that it isn’t with Nike. New Balance, adidas, or Puma are all good and all have a good existing stable of top track athletes.
I have nothing against Nike’s stance and outspokenness against social and racial injustices. I think many have an issue with that and that is why they don’t want Steiner to sign with Nike. Nike is probably the most influential company involved in track & field and they’ve done some good for the sport but also a lot of bad.
Oh my God is this true, (our sport is growing massively)
If you are a female athlete, it's much better to be a track runner than be a WNBA player. The highest paid WNBA player, only makes about 200k a year.
There are a lot of women runners making over $200k per year. Especially when you look at the world level. Anyone who wins a marathon marathon is getting over $100k just from the one race not to mention contracts and contract bonus and additional appearance fee bonuses. It is one of the few sports where men and women are paid the same, there is probably a case that more women have contracts. And the prize money is identical.

Has Steiner given any indication that SHE doesn’t believe in speaking out about social and racial injustice?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is what we call White Privilege, in plain view
If she were black, she wouldn't even got 1 million, straight out of college
I don't agree in this case. That being said I can think of a number of American runners in recent memory that have to be in this same ball park of yearly income via base salary or through race bonuses
Athing Mu - I'd bet all my savings she's on a similar deal to Steiner even if she's with nike
Jenny Simpson
Allyson Felix
Shelby houlihan - she paid a quarter million in legal fees without Nike assistance. Most of that was probably from race bonuses but still most dominant mid d runner in recent memory since Simpson/rowbury moved on.
Ajee Wilson - maybe
Emma coburn
Grant Holloway
Noah Lyles
Trayvon Bromell - he once said when he was bored he would go buy cars

I don’t believe that she has. However, speaking out against social & racial injustice is hard for some people to do just because of their personality. I know many people that have strong personal feelings about injustices but have a difficult time speaking up about it.
Steiner is a reserved person, almost to the point of being demure. She isn’t showy, or flashy, and is not one that really likes to draw a lot of attention to herself. She at times is disbelieving of her own accomplishments. She is a good person and will be great for the sport.
My point about not wanting her to sign with Nike has nothing to do with a desire not to see her align with Nike’s outspoken stances on social issues. I actually believe that is one thing Nike does that is positive though, in reality, I find their stance to be hypocritical at times give their record of exploiting labor markets and workers in some countries. From what I’ve heard, though, Nike is attempting to amend for that.
I just believe that for any good that Nike does, they do a lot that is also bad. It is never good when a corporate entity yields as much influence over anything to the degree that Nike does.
I never understood the reason, why shoe companies don't want track athletes to reveal their salaries. Does anybody have any idea ? ( Why only for track athletes)
It’s standard policy for endorsement contracts. These aren’t performance salaries from a team, where a footballer is paid to help the club win.
It’s also bad optics to reveal that a 2:08 marathon runner from Kenya gets paid next to nothing and yet a man of similar ability from America or England is paid so much more.
Good for her. Is this the signing bonus or is this 2 million say over five or ten years? you’d think she’s going to make much more than this. She’s white, beautiful, and talented. Smart move by puma.

She’s WHITE?? Really? Please tell me more, Captain Obvious!
You couldn’t yourself by bringing race into the conversation, could you? You’re a freaking, chucklehead.

Most of those people don't get anything close to $1M / yr.
